Wondering about thoughts from group on the purchase of a Denon 4806. Assume unit is low use and perfect condition. What would be a fair price range for a unit like this? If you were going to spend approx $1K on a receiver, would it be wise to purchase something like this or look for a lesser model but newer?

Since you're only running a 5.1 setup in a large space, the 4806 is an excellent option. Make sure your BD player has multi-channel outputs to receive the new BD audio.

If it were me, I would bump the budget to $1250 and buy a new Yamaha 3900.

I agree with Zumbo.

If not the Yamaha, then something equivalent with plenty of HDMI Inputs + TrueHD/DTS-HD decoding + 1080p Upscaling.

I would take the old Denon for $500, but not $1,000.:D
