Ya got me on the meds. After the knee surgery a week ago still on inflammatory meds, but I do miss those pain meds:cool:

Couldn't resist, but the only difference I found between the two Denon's was on the shipping :D as in shipping the 4520 back. My CC got credited back asap and if I would have heard something my golfing bud wanted to buy my 4311ci, but it was a no go.

PS: As far as listening test, and this I can actually prove, when taking pain meds, you can for fact hear a difference in your speakers, amps, cables, music, room and wife.:D The changes are constant but not ever lasting...
I notice the 4520 has labels for the Quick Select buttons. I don't like that. I prefer it labeled as just 1, 2, 3, 4, not Sat, Blu-ray, Game, Network. The 4520 also has less buttons, lacking buttons like Surround modes (Standard, Stereo, etc) on the unit. Don't like that either. Nitpick, I know. :D

Both are made in Japan, that's good.

Thanks for all of yalls input. With all thats been said, I really should go for the Denon 4311ci and couple it with my Emotiva XPA5. If I get a prepro, I have to get more amps to power the other zones, so the Denon is the obvious choice. Right now, I have the XPA5 hooked up to my old Onkyo SRTX706 in 2 channel Pure audio mode with a pair of Infinity Beta 50s.
I have the XPA 5 as well, and this is also my thinking in looking at the Denon 4311. You get the Audyssey XT32, Sub EQ HT, and (coupled with the Emotiva) the ability to go up to a 11.2 system in the future. The Denon is pretty beefy, so it shouldn't have any problem powering surrounds/heights to pretty decent volumes.

Anyone think the Denon 4311 will drop in price before they stop making it??

I know electronics expo was selling the 4311 brand new delivered to some members here & AVS for $1225. I would ask around and see if others could price match (Vanns, Onecall, Electronics Expo, etc).

OK, I pulled the trigger. Funny thing is, I pulled the trigger last week and bought a Marantz AV7701 thats on its way as we speak. So, Once it gets here, Ive gotta take it back to Magnolia and get my money back. In the meantime, I just got the 4311 for $1400 shipped to my door. Thats the absolute best I could find. Theyre getting scarce out there. Well, for under $1400 that is. There was one used one I couldve got for $1100 shipped to my door, But I figured whats another $300.

Anyways, Ill be running the 4311 coupled with an Emotiva XPA5 for 5.1 sound along with the entire Beta series (50,20,C360,VS12 Sub) for sound. Im sure Ill have a ton of dumbass questions trying to get accomadated to a new fancy receiver, so stayed tuned so yall can help me out.

Need an opinion though. If I wanted to go strictly 2 channel for music in another room, can I use one of the other zones and/or the 4311's amps or a separate 2 channel amp hooked up to some better speakers? I havent really looked at the back of the 4311 yet to see if a separate amp is possible with zones 2 or 3, but I figure I could do it. I hope Im not disappointed with this amp and this setup.

Also, I know the PS3 is a pretty good BD PLayer, but what about for CD duty? My old Pioneer from 1991 finally died and I was wondering, "do I really need to buy a new player since I have a PS3"?

I am still struggling with trading up to the AV8801 or not. I know I won't hear anything better and I don't need the stupid uselesss 4K feature. I also have two 2 channel pre+power amp systems for 2 channel purposes that are in theory superior to the AV8801+MM8003+MCA20+GFA555 HT system, but I still want to get the AV8801 no idea why... Stupidity I guess, that's got to be it.. Any meds to cure stupidity?

Sure, antipsychotic, antidepressant, and anti-anxiety meds to numb all your senses, passion, and happiness. :D

Otherwise, the upgrade fever will continue to exacerbate until you have reached the flagship.

I don't think you need a new CD player. And the 4311 will be great.

well I wouldn't go as far as stupidity, but borderline delusional might be another diagnosis:D with a case of curiosity thrown in for good measure..

For those thinking going separate pre-pro + amp, they should realize the possible issue of annoying ground hum noise. :D
AMEN to that statement...

I found that out the hard way, but I was finally able to eliminate hum from my current setup and the loudest noise is my Cable box (operating noise, not hum):D:D
- Not all amps play well with all Pre-Pros and the lessons I have learned, is that I will demo all my equipment whenever possible before buying
- It also helps that my dealer is literally a 10 min walk from my house
- On a side note I have been really impressed with my new Halo A52/A23 amps!

One thought I'd like to put out there on AVR vs PrePro. The speakers you are trying to drive will also dictate which way to go. My fronts are very inefficent, Thiel 2.4's. I would not try to drive them long with the amps in my AVR-4311; Ive never even fired them up to speakers.

I run it in pre-pro mode to two different amps. One 2 channel amp, HCA-3500, for the fronts and then the rest thru the a 5 channel amp, HCA-2205.

My reasoning for the 4311 was great price and room eq improvements. I would have stayed with an Onkyo if the 5508 did not have unpredicable issues.
