At the end of 2007, I bought a new Denon 4308.About 3 months back, the tv screen showed a lot of vertical lines entirely coloured for 2 minutes and then it went ok.One week ago, when using DVD the video and the sound went out suddenly. After checking everything and opening the set, I think that I have a problem with the HDMI board, since it´s not detected by Auto configuration. If I use anyother connection the receiver will play fine, the same happening if I overpass the Denon.Do you have any ideas, besides the digital unit being faulty? Thanks for any help .

You are correct, it needs a new HDMI board which will be pricey.

I welcome your opinion. The HDMI board if doesn´t have a repair will cost around 520 dollars. The thing is that are places sellin´ the 4308 between 800 and 1400 bucks. So wouln´t it be better to buy a new set that woud serve only as a preamp, without the Ethernet and the WIFI stuff that I don´t need.If you qabout such equipment please let me know. Thanks

Those receivers are obsolete. I would buy a new receiver with the new audio codecs for Blue Ray.

This is the current line up for Denon.

Hi guys,I really didn´t made up my mind as to what decision I´ll take.Buying a blue ray is my goal and repairing the Hdmi unit-without getting a new one-is the cheaper solution and I´ll try to see if that is possible.Sometimes the faulty unit cames alive and let me have one hour of good digital performance,so it might be repairable. As to a new set,I don´t know if I´ll stick with Denon.I think that today sets are falling in overall quality with the older AVR 5600,5700 and 5800 series despite the new features that they have.I remain open to any opinions and I thank both of you.

Obsolete is a strong word here. It is a 2008 model, has all the new codecs and WI-FI.
Are you certain that the 2007 model the OP has, has the loss less codecs? I could not confirm that. Such information that I was able to dig up suggested that they did not.

In that case the OP should get his fixed.
