Should i upgrade to a new hdmi 1.3 receiver so i can hear the new HD codecs,
or can the 4306 pass the new codecs paired with HD or Blu ray player.

Keep your receiver.

The Denon has HDMI 1.2 repeating correct?, so it can still do 7.1 surround sound using 7.1 LPCM just as well as the HDMI 1.3 repeater receivers assuming the HD player at the other end can process Dolby Plus and Dolby TrueHD, which most do, and more that can decode DTS-HD will be available off the shelf as well as firmware updates to decode DTS-HD will likely become available.

At this time HDMI 1.3 has no purpose. The only thing that would change (once HDMI 1.3 HD DVD and Blu-ray players supporting bitstream HD audio) is where the processing takes place. So if you have a receiver with at least a 1.1 repeater you can get up to 7.1 LPCM from the HDMI port on the HD player to the receiver as the HD player has already decoded the bitstream (the sound should be almost if not exactly the same as it would if this process occured in the receiver).

Hope this was helpful.:)

Indeed, I have a gut feeling that HD DVD will pull through. That is of course, my humblest opinion.:D

You maybe correct but only because I bought a BR. If I had of gotten the HD DVD then BR would win. It always works this when I am involved.

With the investment you made in the 4306, you probably should keep it for now and revisit this dilema in about 12-18 months. At that time there will be a lot more options with HDMI 1.3, HD-Radio, DTS-MA and Dolby-THD.

BTW; the Denon 4306 is HDMI 1.1 comliant, not 1.2. I have one currently, and I will be changing it out for one of the 3 below;

If you want to move up within the Denon line, then the 4308CI is the HDMI/1080p compliant contender to the 4306, and it retails for $2500. It includes 3 zones, 140W, WiFi, HD Radio, and all the goods. It's available now.

Onkyo is another option, the 875 or the 905 are your best bet. The 905 includes HD Radio, and it will retail around $2000. The 875 doesn't include HD Radio, but has pretty much everything the 905 has. The 875 is available now, but the 905 hasn't yet made it to store shelves as far as I know.

The Pioneer Elite 94 model is pretty comparable to the Denon and the Onkyo, but there is no HD Radio option. It retails for $1600.

The big difference between these guys is the Reon QV scaler in the Onkyo vs. the Farouga DCDi chip in the others. Arguably, the Silicon Optix chip is superior to the Farouga, but I don't know if it really makes that much difference. I think the HD-Radio feature is one that is attractive for me and may likely push me to buy the Onkyo when it comes out (supposedly this month).

Seth=L,
Hi, So far I have used Cheap AV Staff. I want to start a powerfull and good quality HT. I have budget constrain. So I cant try different brand easily. I have to hit it at first time.
Afer so much study I have selected speaker from Paradigm family. New Monitor-7 v-5 as front, cc-290 as ceter, adp-390 as surround & PDR-12 sub.What do u think about that? Got good deal with paradigm.(Though i like Klipsch but not available here.)
I want full satisfaction keeping enough power reserve. I m confused with the AV Receiver. Denon 3805 or Yamaha 1500. I can secrifice with feature, Easy setup, Remote, even HDMI but not with power. Dont want power drop while playing 5 or 7 ch at a time.
Music and movie are in my blood. I need some advice or sharing your experience. Regards.

If the two receivers mentioned are comparably priced I would go with the Denon AVR-3805. The RX-V1500 is a nice receiver, but I am thinking the Denon is going to have a better amplifier section in it.

Also, I would look for a subwoofer elsewhere than from Paradigm, especially the PDR series subwoofers. I would look at Velodyne if possible as well as Boston Acoustics. Online subwoofer dealers such as SVS and HSU are also great for the money. If you get the chance I would audition the Boston Acoustics VR series before they sell their last units, I found their sound to be much better for the money than the Paradigm Monitor series. I think the Bostons are a better all around speaker, this is just my opinion however.
