Denon 3808 vs Pioneer Elite

One thing good about the Denons is that their amps are quiet. You can select a source without playing anything, crank the volume right up and you won't hear any hiss even if you stick your ears close to the speaker.

Based on your less than perfect experience with the 3808 it is good that you are able to exchange it for the Pioneer and that you like what you hear so far. I am still planning on getting another Denon but have not completely ruled out the Pioneer yet. I would appreciate it if you could find out whether you can hear a hiss from the Pioneer by selecting a source with nothing connecting to it and crank the volume right up to, say, pass 0 or higher.

Well I just checked and its whisper quiet when you crank it up past 0 and I must say im very happy about that you had me worried for a second...well as long as it took me to run downstairs and check :p Also I noticed the Pioneer Elite runs very cool to, the coolest out of any reciever i've ever owned and it has the most power. Also about 6 to 7 hours of movies and no blue screen , the Denon like I said makes a great reciever normaly but because of what I went threw this pioneer is like a breath of fresh air, i am so happy with it that its hard to put into words. It didnt take me long tto dial it in and its sounds beautiful for movies and music. So far I highly reccomend the PIONEER ELITE 94. My denon sounded equaly aas good and rreally its just a matter of taste I think, being the Denon has a warm sound and the elite is brighter but I think it deppends on what speakers your running and what compliments them the best. I think this Pioneer is a match made in heaven with my Paradigm speakers.

The most important thing is that you are happy with with whatcha got. I'm glad it worked out for the best for you. BTW, that Pioneer is much sharper looking than I had recalled.:)

Thanks I really appreciate the kind thoughts, so far im totaly satisfied and then some. Believe it or not I do miss my Denon in a way, but its not because it out performed my Pioneer. I think it was a dead heat in performance imo they both shine in different areas and end up being a wash out. But I think its because im not in the Denon family anymore and ventured off to the dark side ;):)

Thanks, that's great news! I can't stand amps that hiss because I like listening to classical music and classical music tend to have very quiet passages. My dealer stocks both Pioneer and Denon so next time I go there I will demo both. The Pioneer also has an Ethernet port right?

Ya it was great news to me to lol. I listen to alot of classical music now myself, my taste have changed since I went up a couple of levels speaker wise and my receiver compared to my 15 year old Yamaha that didnt even have dts but it was a great dependable receiver and sounded good.I'm pretty sure it has a Ethernet port but not sure it wasnt important to me because I wont be using it anyway. Thats the best thing to do is listen to both side by side and make your decision. One thing thats pretty nice is this pioneer runs so cool and if its going to be in a tight area thats pretty important. I think you cant go wrong though with either the Denon or the Pioneer as far as sound quality.I Think its just a matter of personal preference
