I have Denon 3805 connected to old JVC receiver (18 Years) with 2 sets of speakers connected directly to the JVC. I am receiving sound in each of the speakers, but I am not getting the volume out of the speakers that I would expect. I have the Klipsch CS-650's and Klipsch HS-1 Outdoor for speakers and I am not sure, but I believe that the JVC would not output more than 25watts per channel if that. So do I need to buy a pre-amp with more power? If so what would be the recommendation?

You need to use an amp, you control the volume from the Denon, not a seperate receiver. This is why you arent getting the appropriate volume.

Odds are good that the zone 2 output on your Denon is turned down really low. To test this, plug your zone 2 RCA connectors that are currently on 'zone 2' on the back of the Denon into the 'VCR OUT' RCA jacks on the back of the Denon, then turn on the FM radio. Do you have enough volume now?

If so, then your zone 2 volume is turned down.

Your setup that you are describing works fine, but you are doing volume control twice. If you aren't going to use the Denon's built in volume control, then make sure it is up high. It should be at 0db for pure signal pass-thru to your JVC.

I agree with this completely. Your setup should work fine and is really no different than using a seperate amp. For example the signal (line level out) is basically the same input into your JVC as a CD player except you have the additional volume control. Make sure your remote is set to zone 2 and then use the main volume controls to adjust the volume up. Unless you are using the fixed volume and then in that case you have two settings in the setup menu, I believe it's either 0 or -40.

Are you using a 5.1 setup? Do you have impedance matching volume controls installed in between the speakers and JVC? If you do I think you can use the 3805 to power both sets of speakers. You can connect one set with bananas and the other with lugs. As long as you are not blasting the speakers at full volume all the time this setup should work fine. Or get a speaker selector for less than $100 and eliminate the JVC.

If you are using 5.1 or less in the main zone then discard the old amp for zone 2, you don't need it. Your denon is a multizone unit with assignable amps. In the set up you have a choice to select surround back or zone 2. By selecting zone 2 you are assigning the #6 and 7 amps to power you second zone. If you want local control of volume add a volume control. To set the volume, adjust the local control to its maximum then bring the zone 2 volume on the 3805 up to the highest comfortable listening level. After that you can control the volume from the wall and you will only need to go to the 3805 to change sources.

I have the volume set to variable in setup, and I'm adjusting the volume with remote. I turn the volume up as high I as I can on the JVC and I also control the volume at the rooms...

I'm using 7.1 setup... I do have impedance matching volume controls.... Reason for the JVC..
