Denon 3805 or Yamaha RXV 2500

Hi

I have deceided to get myself an Av receiver and the final 2 receivers that stand out is the Denon 3805 and the Yammie 2500.

I have read different reviews about both receivers but due to my inexperiance in HT I am unable to clearly differentiate a winner..

I am currently on a learning curve and I need to make a good decision now so that a few months down the line (after reading up on HT) I will be happy to know that I have made the right decesions.

Any advice?

Not really much advice other than just research it then give them both a listen, I have the Denon AVR-3805 and love it however the RXV-2500 is also a great piece of equipment, a win/win senario. Like Snarl said, both are great receivers; each has their following. Don't base your decision on how many "votes" you get for each. Make your own decision; I believe you'll be happier about it later on.

It is my belief that you'll not hear one iota of difference in sound quality from these receivers, assuming their equally adjusted and not driven to clipping. Any receiver selection, I believe, should be made on the basis of price, build quality, power, features, connectivity, aesthetics and ease of use. Both receivers are well-built and have plenty of power, features and connectivity. My advice is to go to the stores where they sell them and spend some time with each. Work the controls both on the receiver and the remote. Make your decision based on which is easier to use and which looks the best to you. Good luck!

You can't go wrong with either one. I picked up the Yamaha because i found it cheaper and it included the setup mic. But I would have been happy with either!

I agree with the aforementioned. I just purchased a Yamaha rx-v2500 because the mic came with it. The yammy is somewhat less expensive too. My only beef with Denon is that if you're gonna boast about your auto set-up blah blah blah than at least include the mic.

To me it's like selling the receiver without the power cord.

I'm sure you're gonna love which ever one you end up with!

When I purchased my 3805 over a 2400 the choice was easy, the 3805 had three component inputs while the 2400 had two. Of course the 2500 has three so now the decision becomes harder. I'd basically go off of price bottom line. But don't kid yourself, the mic is not a big deal and really won't make much if any difference at all. I purchased a mic against others suggestions that it really doesn't do much. Guess what? They were right and it didn't. Regardless of any receiver you purchase you should still use the good old Radio Shack SPL meter to setup your receiver. Base your decision on features that you are going to use more than once or twice like multiroom distribution and video upconversion/switching.

Hi,

I was in the same boat as you are now. I've narrowed my decision between the DENON 3805, and the YAMMIE RX-V 2500.

After several a/b comparisons, I've got the Denon, because to my ears, the sound was better and I've found the 2500 gets pretty hot when compared to the 3805. Don't know if that is an issue; anyway the 2500 is a fantastic machine also.
Tell you what, if you put both in a scale, you'll have:

YAMMIE - THX / 130WPC / INCLUDED MIKE / CHEAPER
DENON - HDCD / 120 WPC / MORE EXPENSIVE

Just flip the coin and you'll have a winner, for sure, or let your ears decide, same as I did!

Since the 3805 is going to be discontinued. You can probably find it at a retailer for ab out 900 bucks or so. (1000 at crutchfield) Good time to buy before the 3806 comes out.

THX is are marketing gimic.

The denon can easily perform to THX standards
10 watts makes virtually no difference in a reciever.
The mic is nice but not entirely necessary. I found them only usefull for setting up db levels and speaker distance. I have yet to find a moderatly priced reciever actually equalize frequencys very well.

Both are very good amps. And there is no wrong choice here. But the denon may be actually cheaper at this point in time.

I just bought the 3805 for $800 at Good Guys. As the 3806 arrives, I would expect it to drop even more.

How do the MA RS speakers sound with the 3805? I have some RS8's at the top of my list for my next upgrade.
