Denon 3805 Monitor Out problem

This is sort of a receiver/video problem so I hope this post is in the right place. Just bought a Denon 3805 Receiver. Connected my DVD player to it via optical cable to the Opt 1 input. I'm pretty sure I correctly set the DVD as the Opt 1 input on the receiver during set up. Ran a video cable from the 3805 Monitor Out to the TV. No picture. I then tried an S-video cable from the 3805 Monitor Out to the TV. No picture. So I ran the S-video cable from the DVD directly to the TV and got the picture no problem. I can see the receiver's on screen display no problem. Why can't I run the DVD video into the receiver and out to the TV? Any help would be appreciated.

The optical cable is used for audio signals only. You will also need to connect some sort of video cable (Component, S-Video, Composite) from your DVD player to the receiver. The AVR-3805 has a dedicated input for the DVD for composite and S-Video connections. Also, component video input 1 is by default assigned to the DVD player.

Well, that would explain it, now wouldn't it . . . Thanks.
