I Want To Thank All Who Posted Replies To My Original Post On 9-13 -09 About The Lack Of ' New Denon Receiver Reviews'. I Am Still Considering Getting This Unit Repaired At Around $300.00. I'm Unhappy About This Because I Never Even Used It As Multichannel Receiver. I Only Used It In Stereo!!! My Question ; Is It Worth Fixing To Use As The Heart Of The System ??. I Would Buy A Currrent Blu-ray Player To Get The Other Lossless Codec's. Also How Much Trouble Is It Going To Be To Hook Up???. Any And All Suggestions Are Welcome.

Not worth it.

Hi and Welcome to Audioholics forums. :)

Don't bother with it. For $300, forget it. Buy a newer receiver, perhaps a Denon AVR-3806 for not much more, if not the same price.

Do you have a budget for a newer one, and as good sounding than your older one?
The 3808CI is about $750.

* By the way, what's wrong with your 3803?

Are you still just using it for stereo playback? If so, then it it may be worth having it repaired. If you're only listening in stereo, I'm not sure there's really any reason for the lossless codecs. But that said, the BD player would do the decoding and you send that signal to either the stereo analog inputs or multi-channel inputs, which the 3803 has. To make use of the MC inputs, you need to make sure you purchase a BD player with the MC outputs.

denon 3803 worth fixing???

Thanks For The Information On The Bd Player. I Will Probably Go Ahead And Get This Fixed. I Do Plan On Using This As A 5.1 System, I Have The Speakers And Sub . Energy Encore. I Am Unfortunately A Tech Dinosaur. My Previous System Was An 1974 Kenwood Receiver , Sony Cd Changer And Some Klh Bookshelf Speakers. I Know I'm Way Behind.!!! Again Thanks For The Help.

Seeing as you’re using the Energy Encore system I was thinking of other possibilities last night. The repair of the 3803 @ $300 and a Panasonic BD-80 @ $175 = $475.

A newer Onkyo 607 @ $390 and a Panasonic Bd-60 @ $140 = $510.
