Greetings,

The setup: 3802 A/v receiver - used as 5.1 setup
Rotel RS980 BX Stereo amp - using that to power mains

I have an unused Rotel RTC-940AX Tuner/preamp lying about and was wondering how(IF?) I could use that in a multizone setup? I must be blunt, the manual for the receiver is bleak and need some instruction how to do this right. Thanks for any help!

Use the zone 2 pre-outs and connect to any line-level input on the preamp. You'll have to go into the setup menus on the Denon and configure zone 2; ie tell it to use the pre-outs instead of its internal amplifiers.

Remember zone 2 will only be sent analog signals. You must have any device whose sound you want to send to zone 2 connected with analog cables.

Thanks for the reply,

When I am looking in my manual, it shows the on screen setup, I dont have 2 of the options listed - SB CH auto flag detect and Multi Vol. Level. I have the power amp assignment set to multi, but after that I get lost:confused:

I would expect SB CH Auto Flag Detect to not be available if you set the surround back speakers to 'none' in the speaker setup menu (because you don't need to detect DD-EX/DTS-ES flags if you don't have back speakers to play the 6th channel.)

The multi vol level should be available but you never know. It may only be enabled if you set the back speakers to Small. Zone 2 on most receivers can use either the amps for the 6th and 7th channels or be sent to the pre-outs. I wouldn't be suprised one bit if you had to indicate that you have surround back speakers (even if you don't) to get the multi vol option to be available.
