I have a cub question. My sytem is set up, used the instruction book.
Not sure if I have this right. When watching cable, the majority of the time
my reciever shows "Analog" signal. The cable box is showing 1080i. I understand that most broadcast in cable are still sending the analog signal,
but, when I'm watching a few HD stations it still shows analog. I have set the reciever to "auto". Some DVD's didn't seem to have an HD sound, But, "The chronicles of Riddick" had tremendous sound, all speakers working.
So, is this normal and the fact is that cable (RR) doesn't have a lot of HD sound or do I need to correct my settings on the Denon Receiver for optimum performace?

Thanks

With my cable service any channel below 100 is analog. To get digital sound you need to have the upper channel tuned in.
Most likely the 1080i displayed on the box means that the box is upconverting the video signal. It does not mean that the signal is HD or even digital coming in.

Thanks, I'm thinking that the cable channels are 80% analog.
The HD channels do have better sound but some movies may not be in a sound format that uses HD. Are there is just not much sound in the movie for that. I just want to make sure I'm not losing sound due to wrong settings on my Denon.
Thanks again :)

Just a thought..
What connections are you using between the cable box and receiver?
If your receiver is choosing analog on the auto setting it sounds as if you have the redundancy of both digital coax and analog cables. My SA-8300 does not require this.
Try disconnecting the analogs (assuming you are using them) and limit the receiver's choices.
