Denon 3310CI just a couple of Install questions

Set up my 3310CI this weekend, didn't have enough time to install the surrounds so no surround speakers attached, just the FR FL Cent & Sub. Am I causing damage to the AVR by not having speakers hooked up to the surround????

Whats with the Zones? The set up book isn't the most friendly to use, I guess they assume that everyone can follow along, Epic fail on their part.

Also if I hook up the Xbox via HDMI and the Wii, on the same AUX Audio will that cause problems?

Overall I am happy I can control the reciever from my wireless lap top so thats kinda cool, and I sounds great out of the Polks Tsi 300

Thanks for the help.

No problem

What's the problem? You won't receive output unless the sources are connected via stereo analog connections, digital signals are not processed to the other zones.

Also if I hook up the Xbox via HDMI and the Wii, on the same AUX Audio will that cause problems?

Need to know more about how you're accomplishing this? It would seem more beneficial to use two different inputs.
See bolded notes.

Thanks for the reply

Ok I assume the zones are for diffrent rooms. :D

I have ceiling speakers in the living room and the dining room, do I make/can I make Zone 2 for both rooms at once, and Zone 3 for just the dining room?
BTW for info the Ceiling speakers are the Bose 191s :( (I know, I know, I purchased them B4 I found this Fourm )

I have an Xbox and a Wii. The Xbox is connected to the HDMI Aux, The Wii (no HDMI, go figure) just analog plugs where can I hook into? I was thinking the same Aux as the Xbox since I won't be playing the games at the same time. Will it work?

Once I have this set up complete then its on to the Panamax 5300 to Protect it all.

Thanks

Are the ceiling speakers in the living room part of the main zone/HT, or a separate stereo setup? Generally for these receivers, the main zone runs a 5/7.1 setup. With the 3310, if you run 5.1, the Surround Back channels can be used to power zone 2 OR 3 in stereo. A separate amp is required to power a third Zone.

Now if the LR is not part of your HT, and you plan on running a 5.1 HT setup, then the 2 extra channels can power the LR (Zone 2). You’d need a separate amp to power the DR speakers (Zone 3). You would then be able to run Zone 2 and/or Zone 3 by turning on those zones separately.

I have an Xbox and a Wii. The Xbox is connected to the HDMI Aux, The Wii (no HDMI, go figure) just analog plugs where can I hook into? I was thinking the same Aux as the Xbox since I won't be playing the games at the same time. Will it work?
There shouldn’t be a problem. The receiver selects the best connection signal available, starting with HDMI. Do you have other sources connected besides the XBox/WII? If it were me, I’d use V.Aux for the XBox HDMI and the VCR input if you’re not using one, or one of the others not being used, for the WII. You can then change the names for these inputs that get displayed, pg. 49.

AV Thanks for the reply,

Ok the Ceiling speakers in both the DR & LR are seperate from the HT. I would like to make the HT a 7.1. That being said I assume I would need an amp to power the the Zones seperately no?

Thanks again your response as been very helpful.

That's correct. You'd need 4 channels of amplification.

Thanks, so what would be a good 4 channel amp to go with my set up?
