Denon 2910 issue: centre channel low volume

Hey guys...I noticed that the center channel on my Denon 2910 is not as loud as previous players I owned/auditioned...This is during DD and DTS movies. Can anyone give a suggestion as to why this is? I noticed Eagles HFO and Roy Orbison Black and White Nights were very low volume in the center, way moreso than before.

does "source direct" need to be on for DTS as the manual states (or I have misunderstood it)??

The manual states that "source direct" must be on or all speakers are set to large.

BTW, I am using interlace, not progressive or HDMI. Does the settings in there do anything for me??

Help...thanks

JC

Have you calibrated your speaker levels? Interlaced vs progressive has nothing to do with the sound.

I think you may have it backwards on direct (not sure because I haven't used a 3805). Source Direct on my receiver SETS everything to large, and I was pretty sure that's what previous Denon receivers I've used did as well. This setting WILL affect your sound because I think it may also bypass your speaker level adjustments. The only case I could see that this would need to be on is if you are using the multichannel analog connections, in which case, you would want it set to source direct. This means however, that you need to make your speaker adjustments in the player not the receiver. For movies, I would highly recommend you use a digital connection and hires DVD-A and SACD use the analog.

thanks J Garcia but i knew that stuff already:) I think I did a poor job of describing my problem..

DTS and DD 5.1 only...not analog...that's fine.

Center channel volume from those two discs, ones I use all the time for reference, are MUCH lower. Compression is off. I know I use the receiver for volume control on DTS and DD.

This is the third 2910 i have had in the past month. First two I bough thinking they were new, both were taped up and sold as new. I never noticed low centre channel volume on those. This third one is a demo as they were sold out of the player. Hopefully my "new" player, which hopefully arrives this week direct from Denon, won't have this issue.

Well, that one just sounds like a defective player to me. Hopefully the new one solves your problem :)
