Denon 2910 DVD Player needs what format to play wmv files/discs?

I just became interested in making movies with Windows Movie Maker. When you are through with your movie, it is published to a file on your disc as a wmv file. The Denon 2010 does not recognize the wmv file burnt to disc. Using conversion software I have not been able to get my Denon 2910 to recognize DVD or mpeg2 conversions of the wmv files burnt to disc. What format can the Denon 2910 recognize and play. I have tried taking small movies as samples and once in awhile it works, but don't know what I did differently. I went ahead and converted a 40 minute movie (wmv) and the Denon played it, but the movie became corrupted or bad toward the end. I am not sure if it was the software I used or what, nor do I remember what I converted it to? Any suggestions as to which conversion software (whether it be free or for pay) that is easy to use and what should the wmv file be converted to before burning to disc? AVS Video Converter v7.1 seemed to be simple, but expensive, but did not work except occasionally with a very short movie (I used trial version which leaves a watermark on movie).

Working with any of the Windows audio/video formats is an instantaneous recipe for disaster. The low quality and wealth of stupid content protection schemes make it completely undesirable. Don't expect any player on Earth to play wmv... they have no reason to bother.

The 2910 will play any DVD source if you've created it right. If it didn't play, then you haven't created DVD video.

There's conversion software everywhere like ConvertXtoDVD but if you're authoring DVDs, then it makes no sense to author to a dreadful format like wmv and convert... just author to MPEG2. With your process, you just repeatedly damage the quality of the video.
