I have hooked up my Denon 2805 to my subwoofer, and when i do that i get a loud nasty humming sound...why is that? i hooked up a RCA cable from the Denon (the red one) to the Sub (line in). This sound only happens when i hook up the sub....no problems with the fronts/rears/center....

Please help!

Either a bad cable or bad ground in the sub amp.

Yes and No.

The receiver's RCA connector could have a bad ground.

IMO a cable is a cable as long as the connectors are clean and it is sound. Try a different cable, also try hooking the cable up to another output on the receiver, but dont play anything through it. Just see if the hum goes away.

Does your sub have a three prong plug? If it does, it's most likely sharing the same ground as the receiver and creating a 60Hz hum. Try a three prong to two prong adaptor and "float" the subwoofer plug's ground to the wall socket. See if that helps.

That's what fixed the hum on my Hsu VTF 2.

I checked the back of my sub.....

i have the following:
Line out (white and red) and Line In (white and red) - RCA cable fits in this

Hi level In and Hi level Out - speaker wire

I am not sure if a 3 to 2 prong would fit in this, would it?

The 3 or 2 prong is the power cord on your subwoofer, not the inputs or outputs.
