I just picked up a used Dennon AVR 1707 receiver. When I power it up, three seconds later it powers down.
Any advice???

To elaborate, the protection circuit that detects short circuits on the speaker terminals is kicking in. If there is no obvious short on the outside, it is possible some internal failure is causing the protection circuit to activate or the power circuit board is faulty (maybe, due to previous abuse) and needs replaced.Check your speaker cables for short circuits. If there is none, then it's due for a service call.
try a different outlet/circuit then. This doesn't sound good though...I have not hooked anything up to the receiver yet, just plugged it in
The receiver won't have a problem running without speakers but it shouldn't shut off- kind of useless that way. Unplug it and remove the cover, then shine a bright light in to look for evidence of water damage. Usually, you'll see mineral deposits if this is the case. If it was a liquid other than water, you should see some kind of deposits, possibly sticky if it was like the Coca Cola a customer of mine spilled on his remote control before calling to say that some of the buttons didn't work.I just picked up a used Dennon AVR 1707 receiver.
