Oh, I believe you...and so do a lot of Definitive fans...but there are also a lot of people who hate Definitive speakers.:D

Thanks for sharing your experience. It means more coming from a non-Definitive owner.:D

I think a lot of the BPs (bipolars) are not placed correctly even by the HT stores. BPs can be tricky. If the room acoustic is bad or placement is bad, you end up with bad sound. But the Definitive direct radiating speakers like the ones your friend has, don't have the same concerns as the BPs.

Also, I a lot of audiophiles hate Definitive because the company does not post detail graphs/specs. To make matters worse, Definitive does not even post the +/-3dB deviation. Instead, Definitive post the "overall" response, which is like -20 dB on the low frequency.

Another thing is that Definitive has like a million advertisements in all the magazines, which makes them look kind of "cheezy".:D

On the other hand, you hardly see high-end companies like B&W, Linn, etc. advertise their speakers.

I don't know. I think there are a lot of factors.

But I love the sound of Definitive speakers.:D

Is Def Tech the right upgrade ?

Right now I have five year old Def Techs BP2006TLs and was thinking about upgrading to AV Rocket 1000s and Center SpeakerRSC200 . The four surrounds will still be DefTec in the ceiling

Am I making the wrong move? or should I consider upgrading to BP7006s and CLR 2300?

Or should I the bullet and get a pair of BP7000SCs and a CLR3000 or Reference 3 Tower speakers and a reference 100 Loudspeaker ?

After reading the FAT-boy thread i am confused?

If i want to upgrade fronts and center for $2,500-$3,000 what do I do ?

Thanks All in advance :)

Go with the big def tech towers and center... I just went from CLR 2002 center with BP10 fronts, to CLR 3000 center with BP7001SC towers and there is a huge difference. But I would say at least upgrade to the CLR 2005 and BP7002 or BP7004 towers. The MSRP prices just recently went up on the def tech site, so who knows if the stores will start charging more for them soon, but if they are going to, you may want to hurry up and purchase.

Go out and listen and audition. There are so many different things out there!

I had DT BP2002TLs for a couple years or so. They were OK, but I grew tired of their signature sound. For that type of money, I think you can find something better.

I have not heard these, but I would be very interested to audition Triangle and Focal. I like B&W well enough, and I have an old pair of PSBs that I love. I like my Vandersteens, but a lot don't because of the looks.

Not sure I would go with an ID brand. Yeah, I know they're great and all, but I just don't like not being able to audition. Yeah, I know you have 30 days, and some even pay shipping both ways. However, I think that a lot of people will end up keeping them because they are 1) "good enough" and 2) a hassle and/or cost to return. That said, I would actually be interested in the Strata Mini as an ID brand. They are actually local to me, and I've considered auditioning them just for the fun of it (and there would be no shipping involved).

I got the Defintive BP7001SCs from my local dealer brand new for $2,400 and the CLR3000 for $700. Awesome speakers. Going from Definitive to AV123 is NOT an upgrade. Sure, those AV123 speakers are great, but not an upgrade.

It's their first price increase in their history, but times are changin and the economy isn't doing as well right now obviously. I'm also sure the price of oil/gas could have something to do with it. At least the increase is modest, it could be worse, but I'm glad I have all my speakers already. On the upside, that makes the def tech's we have now more valuable if we ever want to sell them.

Yeah, really -- GREAT for the current Defintive owners, but BAD for the people who are wanting to buy them now.

Yup, I guess my Definitive stocks just went up.:D

My BP7000SCs went from $5,000/pr to $5,500/pr, BP7001SCs went from $3,500/pr to $3,800/pr, and CLR3000 went from $1,000/share to $1,100/share.:)

For now, my Trinity stock is still unchanged @ $3,000/share.:D

I will say that Def Tech has excellent customer service. I called them yesterday because I have a knocking kinda sound coming from what seems to be one of the pasive radiators in my 7001 tower when there is a lot of bass. I spoke with Chet who was happy to send me out a new passive radiator for free, no questions asked, he never asked how old they were, or if I was the original owner or anything. I also had no trouble getting through to speak with someone when I called, which is also good since I hate having to run through lots of automated menus when I call some place.

I agree completely! I've contacted Chet like a hundred times. He is so helpful. I've talked to other DefTech Reps too, and they are all great.

I think Def Tech has great everything except for one thing: their stated frequency response info on their website. Maybe one day they will list the actual anechoic chamber measurements on their website. But for now, we will have to contact a DefTech Rep for those info.

Def Tech: Quality - Great, Service - Great, Price - Great, Website - needs improvement.:D
