Definitive Technology C/L/R 2300 vs. C/L/R 2500

Is the C/L/R2500 Main worth the extra $250? From what i can see the only difference is the drivers are .75 bigger? both have the same woofer system?

i dont have an elaborate system and listen at moderate volumes.

Thanks.

I would rather not spend the money if it is not a noticeable improvement

def tech bp8's
Well, then I'd go with what Def Tech recommends for the BP8s, which is the C/L/R 2002. I know this was not one of your listed speakers, but it's crucial to timbre match your fronts. I'm sure the ones you mentioned will be okay as well, but the 2002 will actually save you some money :)

Def Tech recommends the CLR2002 to match BP8s, so based on that and based on the two choices you presents I would get the one with the 5 1/4", the CLR 2500 center, because the CLR2002 has 5 1/4", just not the powered sub.

Good Luck!

I went from BP8s with a CLR2002 to BP7006 and a CLR2300, and I think the larger mids would definitely sound better, so I would stick with the CLR2500. Search on audiogon.com and videogon.com as well as ebay to see if you can find a used one in good condition to save money. I have bought all my def tech's used and never had any problems with any of them.

well I recieved the CLR 2500 today and it has been playing at low volumes for about 3 hours I vary the volume every 15 minutes or so - may nt be necessary but it is something I do with new speakers.

I am always very cautious when I buy things like this over the net so I hope I am being paranoid but when I Turned the speaker to install the feet (a big Pain by the way) it sounds like there is something moving inside the speaker? it is large enough that i can feel it as I move the speaker.

Also It does not appear that the subwoofer is firing but t this point I have only played music through it and it is too late in the evening to pop in saving private ryan.

I will post more later but can someone help with the thunk noise i hear when i tip the speaker?

I don't think you should hear anything moving around inside the speaker. But as for you not hearing the sub firing, you do understand the the built in sub isn't for LFE effects, but it's to allow for a full range center channel so you can set your center to large. I would give def tech's customer service a call to see what they have to say about the sound you hear from inside the speakers.

You shouldn't hear anything in there, period. Call. NOW. Are you still reading this? WHY? GO CALL! =)

Also, make sure your crossovers aren't so high that the center is not getting any of the lower freqs as GlocksRock said.

yes i understand but it should at least fire - right? if i rest my hand lightly and play the opening scene from saving private ryan i should feel something?

If you have an avia dvd, put that in and run the speaker setup, that will play a sine sweep on all your speakers, and that will definitely tell you if your sub is firing or not. If you hear something inside rattling around, and your sub isn't working, then something is obviously wrong, it could just be what you hear are the speaker wires going to the sub have come loose, but it could be something more than that. Just call def tech and ask, they have great customer service and are very friendly.

sent it back and went oto seem my dealer. i really hate mail ordering things like this and should have trusted my gut. he gave me a loaner and i am listening to it now - nothing floating around inside and the woofer is outputting sound. Thansk for the help and yes you should be able to feel it move just like any other speaker that is working.

Center Matching

Haven't checked how much wiggle room Def Tech allows for other system matching recommendations, but I have a CLR2300 that sounds great with my BP7002 fronts. Def Tech recommends either a CLR2500 or CLR2002 with them as well. The specs on the 2500 and 2300 are identical except the 2500 has two 5 1/4" drivers compared to the 2300's two 4 1/2" drivers...but you pay $250 more for the 2500. I listened to them both and couldn't hear a difference, and in these penny pinching times, that extra 3/4" just wasn't worth the money!
