Nht

I didn't know of NHT speakers before. Has anyone tried them? Which series is better Classic (zero or two) or Verve for a 5.1 system? They have comparable prices but also the size of the speakers seem comparable even though Verve is presented as smaller.

I've owned the SuperZeros in the past and liked them a lot.

The Classic 3s are basically the same as their Flagship model (Classic 4s) without the built-in passive Sub.

I guess the Classic 2s and Zeros have smaller driver sizes.

You can do a search for NHT reviews right here on Audioholics!

I think most likely I will go for one of the following systems:
Aperion 5b, 5c, 4b, 5d
nht classic three, zero, center and sub

I also like the svs, but their speakers are a bit big and it may be hard to place the rear speakers on tall stands. It will be hard to mount them in the wall because it's a rented apt and it will be hard to hide the wires.

Anyone know how infinity primus speakers compare to the above? Or any other alternative suggestions. I am thinking of spending up to $ 1500 for the full 5.1 speakers.

As someone who owns and has tested DefTech and SVS let me give you my thoughts. There is no way that the Procinema speakers can reach that low. I would cross them at 100Hz and that would be pushing it, while SVS I could easily cross at 80Hz (blends well with their awesome sub) Go with the SVS, better speaker, better value and their awesome subs and reputation.

Rear speakers stands

This may seem like a dumb question to experienced people here...how do you suggest to place the rear speakers? I suppose most people use wall brackets, in which case you will pass the wires through the walls.
But since I am renting an apartment, I have the choice of using a wall bracket where the wires will show (probably looks very ugly), or have stands. I actually have cheap atlantic stands which are relatively tall where I have placed my cheap old speakers.
These stands usually carry up to 10 lb. The SVS speakers are heavier than that, even the sbs-01 speakers. What do you suggest as a stand that can carry these and be tall enough to use for the rear speakers?
Or is there another option I have?

I had the NHT 2.5's and they were some of the better speakers I have listened to.

But I wish Bryston would also warranty their pre-pros for 20 yrs, especially when they come out with their $12K pre-pro.
Never going to happen. People would be deliberately breaking their 3 year old Bryston preamp/processor just to get the new one with HDMI 2.9. Bryston amps don't become outdated as quickly. Something that holds is value is less likely going to be intentionally destroyed to take advantage of a warranty.

Yeah, I guess it should only cost $200-$500 to fix a pre-pro anyway; I guess that's not too bad compared to the original $12K price tag.

But since Emotiva & Outlaw (& other lesser companies) offer a 5 yr on their pre-pros, I would think that Bryston could offer at least a little more like 7 yrs or something.:D

And what's really sad is that Denon only offers a 2 yr warranty on their $7,500 AVP-A1HDCI!

These are only 31 inches tall. Aren't surround speakers supposed to be well above ear level?

The ones I posted are 42" tall.

I had surround speakers that were 13" tall, which would put the overall height to 55", which is high enough for me.

Where can I find cheaper ones? These seem to be a bit high-end and expensive...most cheap ones I find that can support that weight are a lot shorter. Any hints where to search?

Ideally yes, but it's not always practical. If stands aren't an option, you can always get wall mounts.

I have 2 prs (4 stands) and I think they are like 48" high and each weigh about 25lbs. I paid like $150 per pair when I had the SM450s.

Too bad you don't live in OKC (I mean Krypton:D) because I would sell you a pair for like $50.:D

I guess you could look at Audiogon or eBay.
