i just stumbled upon this site last night and its a HUGE wealth of information! i love it!

anyway, im now introducing myself into the high end home audio market. i am a connoisseur of high quality audio. i really like an extremely detailed level of sound and i find its always hard to find someone on the same level of my tastes.

so i am asking you this, as my first post on these message boards, should i try out those AVS X-ls or Def Tech SM350's?

i listened to the def tech's and i have to say im not WHOLEY impressed. i mean, they sound good, but not the vienna acoustics good.

would the xls's be any better?

right now im just hooking up a nice receiver through my sound card on my computer, listening mainly to music and gonna do some 5.1 gaming.

which speaker set would be best for rich details in hard rock->anything soft?

im curious to know... thanks a lot!

im really looking forward to learning a lot from this message board! :D

Sounds like you're looking for champagne on a beer budget. If you can swing the cash, there are lots of good speakers out there (I don't know about Vienna Acoustics good). The key will be choosing several you are interested in to demo. The X-LS are good. plus there seems to be free shipping there and back if you return them (I think). But the most important thing is that there are lots of good speakers out there to consider. For $219, I don't think you can beat the X-LS, but that's my personal subjective opinion. There are lots of good speakers, start listening and choosing the one that appeals to you.

Others to consider (off the top of my head)

Ascend Acoustics 170SE
Axiom m22, or m3, or m2
SVS bookshelves (see review this site)
The new Hsu Research HB1
the list goes on and on.

You aren't going to get Vienna Acoustics at the $200 price point from anyone, probably not even used.

For rock, I'd probably look at the Ascends and Axioms mentioned.
