Hi all! I am new to the forum. I just started hooking up my new Onkyo 5007. I have Def Tech Mythos 3 center Mythos Gems for surround/mains, and a supercube 1 at the moment. I have come across a deal for a few bigger, older def tech speakers. Here is what I am looking at:
BP 20 pair
BP 10 pair
CLR2000
Powerfield 1500
All in original boxes and in supposed excellent condition for $1200. Is this a good deal? I have read all the reviews of these speakers and everyone seems to rave about the sound quality. I think these would be a good upgrade to compliment my new Onkyo. My question is what do I need to check for with these used def techs? Should I take an ohm meter with my old Nakamichi amp to test them? What resistance should I be looking for, or is that over kill? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

For all those speakers at that price it would be a steal. I would listen to each speaker and make sure all the speakers work in each speaker. Since they are bi-polar see if you can have the socks removed and check the appearance or the woofer and tweeter. I have a pair of bp-10's that I bought back in the early 90's and they still sound great.

Thanks! I will definately go check them out. I will most likely sell the powerfield sub if I buy these. Would it sound OK to use a different sub with my supercube or should I get a second supercube?

How large is your space? If it's under 3000 cu. ft. the SC should be fine. If it's over, sell the SC as well and purchase something from SVS, HSU, Epik, Outlaw, eD, or Rhythmik.

The space is 1000sqft with 8ft ceilings so, 8000cuft. The area includes the kitchen and a pool table area. I have a 10ft wide screen with a cannon realis sx6 projector. The actual area that the couches are in is probably 400 sqft/2400cuft.

That is an excellant price considering if priced individually BP10's pair (400.00), BP20's (600.00) and LCR2000 (350.00) and sub (300.00) average ebay price, your getting a great deal.

When buying speakers, always check the foam surounds and make sure that there is "play" with them and not hard, cracked or crumbling from dry rot. Test the speakers at the sellers house with a variety of music from classical to heavy metal to get an idea of how it handles all the frequency ranges.

Test with music and movies you know by heart. The good thing is that many of the drivers are still available on ebay, so say one of the BP10's 6.5" driver is going bad, for 30.00 you can buy a replacement driver and replace in a few minutes.

Deftech is also very helpful (contact Chet) and they will bend over backwards to help you with any issues you may have.

Heck I'd kill to get that LCR2000 myself.
