Decoding question

i have an old Yamaha 5.1 amp HTR-5460. Im wanting to go the Blue Ray route. Will i have any decoding problems with my amp. All im looking for is dts 5.1 till i upgrade the amp.

No, it will default to Dolby 5.1

If your receiver has 5.1 analog inputs, you can even get the thrill of Dolby True HD and DTS MA with the right Blu-Ray player. I use my players' analog outputs, and the sound is superb.

ive only used the bitstream on this amp before. im pretty sure it has fiber optic inputs and outputs as well. Thanks for the reply.

If your receiver has 5.1 analog inputs, you can even get the thrill of Dolby True HD and DTS MA with the right Blu-Ray player. I use my players' analog outputs, and the sound is superb.

It has multichannel analog inputs, so it can be used with any 5.1 external decoder. Many, if not all, Blu-Ray players currently have such decoders built in.

So, there is no need to upgrade the receiver to get the new formats, as long as the player has the decoders built in. And, of course, if the disc has a regular dts or Dolby Digital soundtrack, the decoders in the receiver could deal with these with one of its digital inputs (either coaxial or optical).
