Ok, I'm really disappointed in my ability to make a decision here :)

My home built sub, which BTW F* rocks when the amplifier isn't fried
My 30+yo Criterion Towers (partially rebuilt) used to F* rock, but something funny is going on with one of the speakers.
Center speaker is Infinity Alpha
Surrounds are some older Infinity, don't know model off the top of my head

I love the Infinity Beta's but they are bit pricey for my tastes. Alpha's on close out are about 1/2 the cost of Beta's and I've heard there's really not much difference between them

Talking to a coworker, he noticed some Infinity Modulous kits on sale, and is suggesting for the same $1,000 the Beta's would cost me to get 5+.1 speakers all matched, good quality, and be done with this mis matched set.

I've never heard music sound good coming out of any cube speaker, but as my wife and I chatted (trying to warm her up to spending money), she correctly asked how often we really listen to music, which is seldom and even then it's usually just background noise.

I love the Beta's but it still leaves me with a mis matched set and a broken sub :(

Oh, and the room shape and dynamics are "difficult" I can't put the current surround in a good location, and about the worst possible construction possible for an ideal room

What do the experts think?
