Quentin Tarantino!

The man isn't just mad, he is a mad scientist, at least in the scheme of action and true grit movies. I have seen this movie twice now. Once at the theater and today on DVD. I have to say I was impressed both times, I just love the finesse, the action, the acting, everything about this movie is great. If you like car chases this movie is absolutely for you. If you like muscle cars, this movie is for you. If you like girls with attitude and power, this movie is for you.

Rent it, buy it, steal it, and ultimately, watch it.

Death Proof is my current top pick for this year.:)

If you like listening to people have meaningless, uninteresting conversation for most of the running time, this movie is for you . . . .

Everyone knows that Tarantino movies are "talky", but Death Proof is excessive, and most of it is completely boring - unless you just happened to be into whatever the characters are rambling on about. It has nothing to do with the story, that's for sure.

I say proceed with caution with this one. There is not nearly enough action, and I think many people will start to get bored with the dialog. However, if you can make it through to the big finale, there is some gold at the end of this messed up rainbow.

Now Planet Terror on the other hand - that is one entertaining flick. Unfortunately it's not out on DVD yet.

And see, I hated "Planet Terror" for the most part. I wanted it to be over at the theater so I could see "Death Proof" (not originally I was curious about Planet Terror and it held my interest up till the stupid parts).

Since I don't believe in going to the movie theaters, at least the ones around me as they completely blow, I have been readily awating Death Proof's release. It is currently on its way from Netflix and I should watch it by the end of the week.

For some reason I think many people miss Tarintino's genius in films. If you take a look at all the movies done by Tarintino his best are never action flicks, in fact most of his action flicks are horrible think From Dusk Till Dawn or Natural Born Killers. Tarintino shines in dialog. Look at Pulp Fiction, Resrvoir Dogs or Jackie Brown for example the best parts are when the characters are just talking as soon as an action heavy scene starts the movie looses a little of itself as Tarintino is only sub par with such scene.

When I had tons of friends coming back from Grindhouse saying Planet Terror was great but Death Proof was filled with boring and full of dialog I smiled and got excited for the show. Then again, maybe its just me, but I am always glad to see a Tarintino movie that is dialog driven as those are where he excels.

Haven't really heard much of the Death Proof movie. I do like the Tarantino movies, so I will definitely check it though.

Just watched the flick and damn I loved it! Easy 9 out of 10 in my book. This is the kind of movie my previous post was referring to when I spoke of Tarintino at his A game. Not only did I love the story, but the LFE track was great too :). The video quality wasn't great on the DVD, but that was done on purpose to give the "grindhouse" effect.

I will definitely be picking this movie up for my collection. Probably when the Grindhouse set comes out on BD.

I have not yet seen a film written and directed by Tarantino that hasn't been fantastic.

I haven't seen this yet, but will definitely rent it soon. I'm not so interested in Eli Roth's half of Grindhouse.

too much talk (talk is ok, as long as it's related to the storyline) [reservoir dogs and kill bill talk was ok to me, this one just seems totally unnecessary]

and then there's the hype of the longest car chase scene ... huh ... I thought matrix reloaded had a longer car-bike chase.

i like most types of violence. (exclusions would be: hostel/saw type of violence, apocalypto)

i will try to check out planet terror.

It was an okay pizza movie. But really, I expected more action and less dialogue, considering it's a movie called 'Death Proof' with the aggressive looking promo art. Overall, the acting was okay IMO, except for a couple of actors(Rosario Dawson and Quentin Tarantino). The purposely induced film distortion/grain was actually to the point of being annoying. It would have been fine if they had used a more randomized simulation algorithm, but it kept repeating this large horizontal artifact across the entire frame, dead center, every minute or two for the first 20 minutes or so of the film. In the later half of the movie, the film goes black and white for about 5 minutes for no apparent reason. Another effect that was very annoying.

Quentin Tarantino has never been much of an actor, but he likes to appear in his films. I also agree about Rosario, the lead girl in the beginning "Butterfly" did a better job overall IMO. I thought that Kurt Russel was great.:D
