Dear movie buffs, regarding this sub-forum:

I enjoy reading a lot of the forums here, as do many of you. However, I've had to shy away from this sub-forum, because I get movies partially ruined for me. Just on the first page of threads, I have not seen Untraceable, Into the Wild, Cleaner, National Treasure 2, There Will Be Blood (but will tonight!!), Flyboys, The Mist, Zohan, Andromeda, Iron Man, alternate ending of IAL, Indy Jones, or The Happening. That's almost all of them!

I'd love to read all of your reviews on content, PQ, SQ, background info, anything really. But I don't anymore, due to my fear of "ruining" movies.

I appreciate that DTS puts in "Spoiler Alert" in his thread. So, I ask all of you:

- Do you think its possible to designate thread titles with spoiler vs non-spoiler? (When I research PQ at other forums, there is zero spoiling going on).

I understand some of you really want to talk about the content. Can it be that this will be designated in the thread title? So that I can at least read other threads that are non-spoiler?

Or, if I'm asking for too much, I'll just continue not to read this sub-forum. Thanks for your thoughts. Not a big deal really, I don't want to make this too difficult.

Maybe I just need to watch a lot more movies and catch up with you all!!!! :p

what if the posts are the ones with spoilers instead of the OP?

btw, are the OP's i made spoilers? if they are, i have no problem putting a spoiler alert on the titles.

Good point I failed to address. I guess what I meant was that, as one possible remedy, the thread title could basically inform other posters whether its a spoiler-free thread or not.

Dunno. I probably never have movies spoiled for me at other forums. I don't know why. Maybe I am misperceiving things.

well, whatever, I don't want to make a big deal out of this. I mean, as a more extreme measure, I can just set to "ignore" anyone who happens to spoil more than others. The thing is, I probably will never even get to that point of reading here anymore unless I feel safe in not having movies spoiled.

Though I may lose input from respected members about PQ, SQ, and content, there are other forums that work fine.

If everyone wants, they can request a spoiler alert from a mod... who can then change the title

Edit: Added SPOILER tag... Use the word "spoiler" in standard brackets...

Here is an example of what a spoiler looks like now

Yes, spoiler being added to the title by mods would be the way to go IMO, since it is often not the OP who put the spoiler in there. I try to word my reviews in such a way that it doesn't ruin it.

I have learned to do this myself. As such, just referring to things in a very general way w/o giving-away too much. At least, that is what I have been attempting to do. Perhaps, if we all did then we won't spoil it for those that have not viewed a certain movie yet. Very good advice John. Kudos to you my friend.

Cheers,

Phil

Hey guys, regarding my issue here, I saw a pretty cool function at AVS BD software forum:
......
. Just high-light! Pretty cool.

Example #1

Example #2

(p.s. just for fun, the second poster here made a really, really impressive looking dedicated PJ home theater for $2,300 all said and done. Amazing what people can do with a budget, click his sig.) :)

Anyways, any chance we can have this function at some point here at Audioholics? :D I barely read here anymore, and when I do its with great trepidation. Im probably sounding very demanding, but its just an idea!

Fail.

If you care about movies and how they go, generally you make it a point to go see them.

I run into this a lot on my Motorcycle group. There will be a thread cxalled "yesterday's race in Britain" and then there will be a bunch of people will get pissed because we talk about the race.

I have no problem whatsoever about putting a "spoiler alert" on the thread title, but at the same time, what is there really to talk about a movie unless you've seen it? I just work on the assumption that if there's a thread about a movie, there's people discussing the movie. Also, even if the thread start out inoccuously, there's a good chance it'll morph into discussion about the movie once people see it.

I haven't seen Jumper yet, but I'm not about to go into the Jumper thread either. I think the only thing I'll really miss is hearing people's opinions about whether it's good or bad, but that leads to discussion on why it was good or bad and then - SPOILED!

I like the white text, it works quite well.

Edit: upon quoting you the white text may not be such a good idea as it shows more clearly.

Most forums do seem to have the spoiler tag, so maybe it could be put into place here (highlighted)?

I don't talk about the movie if I didn't see it. That doesn't mean I don't want to read up on PQ, SQ, and content ratings. I look up movie ratings at other sites to get a feel if its worth spending both the time and money. Even using these sources of information, I was disappointed in the content of a couple of films that I bought more for the PQ. If anything, I am becoming even more discriminate. Check out the AVS BD software forum, and tell me how much, if any, spoiling is going on.

That's where you and me differ. Also, I should add that I don't go to the theaters anymore. Last time was American Gangster. I didn't even go to Iron Man. I might not even go to Dark Knight, and Im a big Nolan fan. The hardest one to pass up will be Wall-e, I might actually go for that. My HT is superior to the local theaters in PQ, SQ, immersion, and comfort. If I want to watch with a bunch of friends, its $20 for the home viewing, or $80 for the group to see it in the theater...

Thanks for your input.

Yep, I have to be really bored or really interested in a movie to actually go to the theater to watch it these days.

The word "spoiler" in brackets now works...

alright!
and you can
even click
on the blocked out
words
to reveal instead
of
just highlighting.

I get what you're saying, but if you're on discussion forum and there's a thread about a particular movie... I think it's safe to say and assume that people are likely discussing it. I mean how many posts can there be about "R U Going to see it vs not see it"

I don't know how much info there is to gleam in the absense of discussion about the actual movie.

That's all I'm saying. Maybe each of the individual movie threads should have a poll attached for the kind of info that many just want to know without hearing about the movie. I think that would be better. You could open the thread, see the poll results, but don't have to read the actual discussion about the movie which could ruin your experience.

The poll could have general things like:
RECOMMEND / NOT RECCOMENDED
MOVIE LIVED UP TO THE HYPE: YES/NO

That sort of things.
