No, but .tk is the Internet country code top-level domain for Tokelau, a territory of New Zealand in the South Pacific. Does that help any?

Looking that up was the first thing that I did, too! :)

It says that anyone can register with that domain, so I don't know if the company is based there.

Well, would you buy from it?

Too good to be true. Figured I would ask. Almost time for receiver upgrade.

After a little research it appears to be a Chinese Site...I got burned on the last thing I ordered straight from China. They could prove it left the country but when the package left Singapore they washed their hands of it. I never received the product I ordered.

Usually if it sounds to good to be true...it is.

This is one of many reasons why I am still very uncomfortable with ordering online unless I have no other choice.

Always good to be cautious, but the risk is quite low if you stick with reputable online merchants. I gravitate to Amazon just because of my experience with them.

I buy quite a lot of things online, and don't usually have bad experiences at all. I always use credit cards for it, so if the deal goes bad, I don't have to pay (though in order for that to happen, one must take the trouble of properly reporting it to the credit card company). But that has not come up as a necessary remedy, and I have been buying things online for quite a few years.

Now, in a case like this, I would stick with authorized dealers, or expect to get a "grey market" item, and with one from China, it is likely not made for import to the U.S. It might still be a good deal or not, depending on what exactly one gets (one might not get anything at all, but for dealing with that, a good credit card can take care of that problem). But there is definitely greater risk involved with such purchases than buying from an authorized dealer, as Yamaha will likely not give you a warranty at all if you purchase from an unauthorized dealer.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with shopping online. All you need to do is stick to reputable websites.

Indeed. One can have equally bad problems buying in person when one does not purchase from a reputable dealer. For example, buying speakers out of a white van is generally not a good idea. When buying online, one needs to take precautions just as one would in person. There is nothing inherently safe or dangerous about online or in person; it is being stupid about a situation that makes a particular transaction unsafe.

Buying a reputable brand product from an authorized dealer online is generally as safe as buying from a local store that is an authorized dealer (though in the event of problems, there might be nonrefundable shipping fees). And one can find out if it is an authorized dealer by visiting the manufacturer's web site; one should not simply trust the claim of the merchant.
