Dead DefTech ProCinema 600 Subwoofer - Any Replacement Amps Available?

My DefTech sub has died, leaving me with a white box. The amplifier is dead, otherwise the sub is in great shape. I'm not too sad, though... I bought a new SVS SB-1000 Pro. What a difference.

DefTech no longer carries the amp board for this sub and I've seen a handful of used amp boards for fairly outrageous prices.

Given that this sub optimistically only makes about 35 Hz, I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money making it whole again, but then again, I am also a very good handyman and I like to repair and restore whenever possible, even if I'm going to give it away.

So... are there other plate amps (or otherwise adaptable) available that I can stick into this box, even if I have to do some custom work?

You can maybe check out plate amps at parts-express.com. May not find one with same dimensions or dsp, tho. I really wouldn't bother with most DefTec subs, tho. Maybe frankenstein one with an external amp for your garage or something....

Hmmm... what can I make with a nice looking white box? A guinea pig hutch? A secret stash for valuables and that bag of weed?

Repair vs a new "good" sub is a no brainer, purchase a new sub with warranty and much better performance.

Yes, I am now the proud owner of a shiny new SVS SB-1000 Pro... great for my room. I just hate tossing stuff unless there is no way it can be fixed... and in this case, it looks to be cost prohibitive to do anything.

There is never any point in spending any money fixing junk. That unit was junk when you bought it, it is junk now and will be junk if you fix it.

I wouldn't bother with that 8" sub with it's limited passive radiator at all....it's just small more than effective. Sub pretender.

Comes down to what you could do with it if you got it working again. It will have no value on the marketplace. You would be lucky to recoup the cost of the plate amp. If it only goes down to 35Hz then it might be useful in a garage or den setup for music. Parts-express is about your only option but their amps will not be tuned to your particular speaker. Cheaper subs are usually destined for the bin when they break down.

Maybe put it up cheap for parts for someone else? Someone might need a driver or even a cabinet. Others may want to take it on as a project.

I’ve heard them In bestbuy they weren’t bad for the small size but the amps are prone to breaking. Congrats on the new svs. I need a better sub eventually I hate the one I’m using now. Maybe I should turn mine up louder until the port noise drives everyone nuts. I personally wouldn’t buy a def tech sub they are one note boxes. Like mine.

Among the world of subs in general, they don't rank very high otoh. TLS isn't a fan for sure of that particular brand, speakers included.

I agree with you. Junk isn't the right word. I'd describe this sub as fart box with a massive ambition.
If you want a cheap and cheerful sub, get Dayton Sub-1200 or the Monoprice 12" 150W sub.
Both hit 20hz unlike your old "sub"
