db-25 vs rca connections

i have found this site while trying to locate some new interconnects for a new component added to my system. i need to use at least one db-25 to db-25 interconnect, so i've been trying to find out as much as i can about this whole db-25 for audio business.

like most people (i think) i never really considered using db-25 to connect the components when rca was a choice, i settled on some transparent audio interconnects to connect the pre to power amps, and the sources to the pre-amp. however, now that i've no choice for hooking the dolby digital decoder into the system, i'm starting to find out what i can.

what do people think about using db-25s? although my first reation is that they have to be crap compared to rca, reading the cable myths on this site, and other places on the 'net, i now have to wonder. if the db-25 socket, connector and cables are good quality, sure there is enough of a socket/pin in a db-25 to make a sufficiently good connection? there are still grounding connections so the wires can be effectively shielded.

i have been unable to find anything on the internet that technically compares a good db-25 to a good rca interconnect. again, my initial reaction is that it can't be as good, but the more i think about it, the more i wonder if that's not just because that's what i have been told.

one last thing, about the cable snake oil article. one of the bonus points to watch for is when they try and tell you wire is directional. from what i understand, for some vendors at least, the directional bit is not so much because the signal is supposed to go in the direction, but because they do not solder the shielding to the rca sleeve outside on both ends, only the source end. supposedly then, any interference picked up in the shielding isn't transferred into the pre-amp. this may also be hogwash, but it sounded more reasonable to me at least.
