Stupid Amazon.com. They just dropped the price of the Onkyo 805 to $810. With my prime membership, I could have it on Tuesday for $4 more.

It's getting more and more difficult to fight the temptation! Friends, Audioholics, countrymen...please, buy them out. If they run out of stock, then I won't have to worry about it.

Just called my dad and told him to buy one at that price! You should too ;).

Fantastic! One down.

Not helping, man. Not helping. :)
You order yet? My dad just got his order confirmation .

I think he will be getting an IPS-1 as well :). I can't wait to play with his gear.

You know it reminds me of a saying (from a Comedian I think): If at first you don't succeed, give up...no sense being a damn fool about it. :)

Seems to fit perfectly to me. You try and try to resist what you know you want to do....just give in.

First, good for him! I bet that he'll love it. Second...I'm still fighting it.

:) Reminds me of a saying, too. Well, more of my life motto. From the pilot episode of Thundercats: When in doubt, chicken out.

I'm not sure it would be worth the cash right now. I don't have any HDMI components or HD players, and I got an RPA-1 to power my mains. Oh, but it is so pretty...

I hear ya Adam. I am the king of self deprivation.

I want certain things but I will wait and wait until I can get what I want. That is exactly why I haven't started the electronics or speaker upgrade I want to do. There is no sense in buying a new subwoofer until I get the new receiver (Onkyo 705 most likely) and there is no sense in upgrading the receiver until I get new speakers...and there is no sense in doing the speaker upgrade until I settle on a new AV stand and pick a TV. Sheesh...maybe by the end of the year I'll be back on track.

Hold Fast Adam,

In a couple of years you'll be able to pick one up for less than $500. :)

Sorry, probably not helping.

Seriously, what are you holding out for? This is the year of the biggest leap in receiver features that I've seen.

And IMO it is the year of Onkyo.

Wow, I could save another $300? Cha-ching! Time to put my waitin' shoes on.

Thanks, Nomo. :D I'm thinking about it, but the rational side of me knows that I don't have any of the equipment that could really take advantage of that bad boy. I just get all geared up when I see something with a price drop...

Pshh, you are looking at this all wrong. Your equipment doesn't have the ability to use HDMI yet. Just upgrade more stuff. Time to by an HD player and the Onkyo ;)! Hah, now you are cornered my friend.

Touche. But, all you smart people here have convinced me that this HD format war is bad for consumers, and HDMI is the child of the devil, so I'm just going to sit out and wait. :) Ahhh, another $810 that I can take with me to grave. Wait, that's not a good argument. Darn it. I am cornered.

No you're not cornered. Exactly what features do you require that your Pioneer cannot do? See my point? Any HDMI device you get can pass HDMI video to the TV and digital audio to the Pioneer. There's no reason to get a Blu-ray or HD-DVD unless you have a 1080p display, but the display comes first, right?

Besides, the only real reason (besides ego) to upgrade a receiver is to support the requirements of your speakers. Certainly the Pioneer/Emotiva drives the NHT's just fine.

I suspect the advice you might give to somebody else in this situation is to pass on a new receiver and add $810 to your speaker upgrade budget.

Problem solved.

Dave, you are right. Thanks. I was just being silly in that last post of mine. I appreciate the rational input, though, just in case I was getting ready to lose it and buy the 805.

I plan on saving the money for now, as I'm going to be getting new flooring, new paint, new TV, new furniture, and maybe new speakers. I keep putting them all off, but sooner or later, it's going to happen...
