Dangerous Temperature in Cabinet?

At what temperature, in your equipment cabinet, does it become unsafe for your components? My cabinet was getting up to 105degF. I placed a fan inside the cabinet and now its down to 90degF. Is that still to hot?

Is your cabinet open to the front or rear? The 3805 will get hot, especially if there's a lack of ventilation. I had the same problem because the front of my entertainment system has glass doors, and the rear had holes for the interconnects.

The receiver was too hot to touch. I mounted a cpu fan over the heat sink, which helped a ton. It still was pretty warm, so I completely removed the back panel of the entertainment system. Now it never gets more than warm. You can't beat ventilation. 90 degrees seems ok BTW.

Yeah I would say 90 degrees is just fine.
So your in good shape.

As long as that cabinet is 90 degrees, I still think it might be wise for a 120mm fan to be placed on the receiver. Since hot-spots will develop inside the receiver. So by force blowing that ambient temp. into the heatsink, it should keep the receiver free of hot-spots. Hot spots probably in the 110+ degree area. Granted I am also thinking of computer case temps. Surely the same principle.

Temperature

If you can get it near room temperature you will extend the life of the equipment. Electrolytic capacitor life will be reduced as the temperature rises so if it is reasonably possible to get the room temp lower that would be a good thing.

Truly? So would you recommend that I purchase a fan for my Z9 which is always very warm after watching a DVD even though it is adequately open on all sides for ventilation, and though the internal fans have never had to switch on?

Dangerous Temperature

The following is from the article I did for Audioholics.com on the refurbishing of the Yamaha T-80 tuner.

"One of the biggest problems that aging units have are the electrolytic capacitors. A generally accepted life span for an electrolytic capacitor is approximately 15 years for consumer applications. There is plenty of variation here as heat will accelerate the aging process. One of the more pronounced effects of electrolytic capacitor aging is that they start to behave more like resistors rather than capacitors, and when they do finally fail they generally take a bunch of circuitry with them! "

If you can add additional cooling without too much of a hassle, I would definetly recommend it.
