So back to the OP... :D I don't really need to be concerned as the ISD-PB10 has a cutoff correct?

Thanks for all the help.

Ducker,
What do you mean by "has a cutoff"? I do not believe that your problem is anything serious, it is just that, that spot in the movie pushes your sub to it's limit.

The statement in bold is a LIE.
I am a JL Audio Retailer. They replace the woofer free, once, if any "user error" is incurred. The second time you pay for it, basically half the price of a new one, when, in fact, you get a new speaker. That is awfully nice for something the customer did to the sub.

I am NOT, repeat, NOT into SPL. I am Sound Quality first, then clean lowdistortion output next. Those drivers are not too hot in that department. The JL is the ONLY car sub I have heard that comes close to or exceeds the Sound Quality of my Velodyne. To me JL is NOT over priced for the linearity and low distortion output achieved. Very few come close.

I can keep you updated. It may not be for awhile though.
Not the woofer, the voice coil. What usually blows up first.

The "woofer" includes the voice coil. :)

By the way, the coil "usually blows up first" when a speaker is being heavily ABUSED/OVERPOWERED.

I know. ;) My bad. What I meant to say was if the voice coil is what goes, they don't warranty it from what I was told last year when I was installing one. Your absolutely right that when the coil goes first it's due to abuse. But most car subwoofers ARE abused. :/ I know your not going to abuse yours though, so, I guess it's not an issue.

I still suggest trying out an RE XXX at some point. I'm an SQ guy too, and I think these things are a real gem. And they have output too, if you should want it, to scare small animals and give old people heart attacks. Plug it into an outlet....do whatever you want, it'll take it. ;)

Take care,
-Chad

Like I said before, that is not true. The part about the voice coils, and JL not covering them under warranty.

If the RMS on a XXX is near 1,600 watts, I would say that it is not a very efficent subwoofer. How the Sound Quality is, one can only tell from experience. Coming from primarily an SPL subwoofer manufacturer, I will lean on them not sounding as good. However, I wil reserve final judgement until I get a good listen.

On the other hand, JL W6V2's and W7's are some of the most efficent woofer's I have seen, though they handle a fair bit of power as well. They are the loudest subs on our showroom floor, and we run all of the subs with 250 watts rms. :)
