Damn, may have damaged eye

Curse you bacon and your greasy deliciousness!! I was cooking some bacon the other day and I got a nice grease splatter in my left eye. That's the first time it hit me IN the eye. The pain went away quick and I didn't think much of it, but I noticed this weekend while being online that when I am reading close up I can see a line in my view on that side. I thought it was an eyelash, but it appears to be damage to the cornea. Distant vision seems fine, it is only when I am viewing something within a few feet that it is an issue. Going to eye doc tomorrow.

I am hoping not, or something that is correctable with lasik or something similar. The bad thing is, that sitting in front of a computer every day means I see it all the time when I am working

I hope it's not permanent or you can get it fixed. Eyesight is one of the worst things to lose in any manner.

Things like this make me glad I wear glasses. I think I can count ~3 times they've saved me from possibly serious eye injury.


Edit: Makes me think of the grease spatter I have to wipe off my lenses when I make bacon, never even thought they'd hit the eye.

I've made so much bacon in my life it isn't funny, so one would never really consider something like this I suppose. I've been burned before by spatter and even have been hit in the face by it, but this was just totally out of nowhere. This was good, thick, peppered bacon from a butcher shop too. Maybe that was my downfall

I can see fine, it is just that there is a small, faint squiggly line through everything in my left eye.

You should be okay hopefully. I did something similar to my left eye, but I was using spray adhesive, and i had been awake for the last 32 hours previous, and on the top of the aerosol can, it said "STAY BACK" and had an arrow under the words. I assumed the arrow pointed where I should stay back. Pointed the can at the disc sander, and then bam! Blew the glue right in my eye. It hurt for days. I couldn't see out of that eye for a while. There was a bunch of glue and junk stuck to it. It was awesome.

Nice. Not cool. I have almost done that before, but it went all over my arm instead.

This is kinda like when you are wearing a pair of glasses that have a scratch just outside the field of view. You can see it if you look at certain things, but don't see it all the time. I can't take these off though.

A scary moment I had lately was trimming around trees with the lawn mower and some debris shot up and hit me right under the eye. It would have been a one and a million shot.

If you haven't already, washing/flushing your eye out with some water might be a good idea. I am always worried about infection.

Bummer man. Hope there is no long lasting injury to your eye. I have done that before and it hurt like h*ll! However, after a few days things cleared up nicely. Sure hope that it does for you my friend.

Ouch! I've almost had that happened. You need to get some splatter guards. One of the best purchases I have made for my kitchen. I still manage to get grease on my arm, occasionally, never any higher though.

Well, he should know what to do after tomorrow. Maybe there will be prescribed antibiotic drops, maybe not, most likely some refreshing drops (not water) so that quicker healing can be accommodated, or who knows.

When working (assuming on computer), get up every so often (more often than you likely do), to rest your eyes. There is a second benefit, and that is when you move around, your increased blood rate is actually good for the healing of your eyes.

Probably the scariest thing that happened to me with my eye was playing HS basketball. I was all up in some taller player's grill when guarding him, he swivels the ball hard and fast ala Karl Malone, and the elbow got me flush in the eye. All I saw was black out of it at first, a few minutes later I can see but it's all dark/shadowy. I was fine not long after, but the optometrists always ask about what kind of trauma I've had when they inspect my eyes, as the physical damage is still apparent to them . . . and so I've told the story about the basketball elbow at least a few times . . .

When I was younger, around 12 or so, I didn't think ahead and lit a pile of firework propellant (from out of 2 or so artillery shells) with a 1 inch paper match. Needless to say I had to keep my hand in a bowl of water for a week. The scary part looking back was cleaning my glasses. There was a entire layer of soot/burn-on that took a lot of effort to remove. I wore the big bug-eye size kind that covered cheek to eyebrow thankfully.

yea i cant count the times my glasses have saved my eyes. maybe you should start wearing saftey goggles when you bring out the bacon J, sounds like a pretty dangerous food. hope its something that can be fixed.
