Damn Comcast Cable's #x% Analog Signal

Hey...first off...I want to shout out a big thanks to all of you for previous help

I have comcast cable which transmits their A/V in analog.

I have a new all digital tv and a new sony HT-DDW790 digital home theater hooked-up by digital coaxial connections. and the specific cable feed into this TV is without a cable box.

the TV & HT work nicely when I'm watching free over the air broadcasts .

When the cable feed is selected from a rf switch....the cable comes in nicely but the audio is gone because it's analog.

Where can I find a selection of analog to digital audio converters that allow the HT to perform when viewing cable ?????????????

Bob,

Good morning. Glad that you got it to at least partially work for you. There's some things that you can try, and at least one other option to get audio from your analog cable.

1. To revisit something that I mentioned in one of your previous threads, try going into the audio menu on the TV (audio section in manual starts on page 32, http://elementelectronics.com/Manual...910_manual.pdf) and change the "SPDIF Type" from Dolby Digital" to "PCM" to see if that will give you audio through your Sony (I see that you changed from the RCA) for your analog signals.

2. You can also, as you've mentioned before, connect a VCR to your cable feed and run the analog audio out from the VCR into your Sony receiver.

Try not to get upset at Comcast. They are willing to rent you equipment to get your setup working. However, I believe that you can get it to work without their equipment. I don't think the fact that the video signal is analog is causing your problems. I think that it's just a setup issue.

I may be missing something but why don't you just plug your analog coax directly into your tv? It's not like you are going to get any better video or audio by running it it through anything else since it is analog.

That's nothing. I pay over $100/month for cable including all the movie channels, HD channels, HD-DVR box, another HD box as well as a digital box plus broadband cable internet. It's a lot of money, but I can't imagine what would happen if I lost that connection. I can't go back to over the air tv and dial up internet.

If all else fails, complain and complain again. I had a similar problem (audio and video noise and real bad quality above channel 65) and after enough complaining, they came out and replaced the cable that went from the pole to the house. The technician said that it is a dirty little industry secret that outdoor cable has a finite life span and that mine was pretty old (it came with the house and was at least 20 years old). A new cable and no other changes made significantly cleaned up my audio and video.

Bob, have you asked your TV to program itself to all the channels? It should pull in some digital HD stations and display as a decimal channel like 123.2?

It does on the neighbor's TV. Certainly not all but Hist, PBS and local stations come in, unless I am mistaken that they are HD analog stations?

Basic cable has always been analog and as I and many others with digital cable have said many times, sometimes even the channels in the digital tier still broadcast analog audio only.

If the TV has only a digital audio out there is absolutely no way to get digital audio out of it. The TV will not do analog to digital conversion. The digital out is for the case where you use the internal tuner and want to send the audio to a receiver to be processed.

Get a cable box. $8 per month is not exactly highway robbery.
