Hello everyone,

My Dad was into music like no one I have ever met. Throughout my youth I was woken up weekend mornings by Mozart blasting through the house. His speakers were about 4 feet wide by 7 feet tall home made by my grandpa who was a cabinet maker and speakered up by my mechanical engineer dad. Those suckers could blissfully wake up the neighborhood.

When dad died he had about 20K into his system. Im not a music buff like dad but I held onto his stuff. Im getting ready to let it go but dont know much about the components. Does anyone have any information about the following equipment. PS AUDIO 200c, Audio Control C101, Entec speaker thingie, Nakamichi CA-5 control amplifier, Nakamichi ST-7 AM/FM Stereo Tuner. Time to make some room around here.

Thanks for the help!

Janelle

Sounds like it may have been a while since your Dad passed, but none the less, my condolences.

But pictures would help a bit. Besides we like pictures of other people's stuff.:)

I remember Nakamichi equipment being the shiznit back in the 80's. Sound like you might have some good stuff there. Sure you want to get rid of it?

My condolences to you. Its never too late to enjoy Mozart but on your time. I'd hang on to them just in case the music bug bites you later on. :)

I'm very sorry to hear about your dad.

Someone above mentioned the AudioKarma site, and I'd second that. It's an excellent place to learn about vintage (as in, "I'm not old. I'm vintage") gear or to just discuss it with others.

Nakamichi... great gear, especially their cassette decks. The Nakamichi Dragon makes an appearance in Nine and a Half Weeks in Mickey Rourke's apartment.

But, like everyone else on this board, the folks on that other site will ask for pictures (or at least complete model numbers) so that they can give you better advice on what to do or what to expect to get for it.

There are auction sites that specialize in high-end audio gear, too. There's even a "For Sale" thread on Audioholics.

Once again, I'm sorry for your loss, but, and it sounds like he did, if your dad kept his gear in good shape, you should be able to find a happy home for it with someone who'll treasure it as much as your dad did.

Thanks for all your condolences and help. I am grateful!

Im gimping around trying to figure out how to put some pics of dads equipment on here. The forum is a new challenge for me. Keeping the equipment......believe me, I have thought about it. Its really over my head. Honestly, I think someone else whos a music, stereo junkie like dad would be a better fit. All the plugs and extra stuff are confusing for me and I havent even imagined what to do with all the buttons and switches if I did get it all plugged in. The right person would be more and more excited with every plug they plug in. I would just start cussing. I have noticed that some of you folks talk about your boom boxes from way back when. Until I read that, I wasnt going to admit that Im a simple minded boom box kind of a gal. Im going to poke around on the forum and see if I can get some photos on here.

Thanks for your kindness!

Hi Janelle,

Do you have any friends that are into music, audio sound systems, or electronics in general?
They would be of great help to you, for suggesting wise solutions about future prospects from your Dad legacy on his musical passion through his audio components.
Have any brothers, or sisters? There must be someone in the family, with a deep interest on music? Someone that likes to listen to some great audio recordings through a good sound system?

You have a lovely day,
Bob

It sounds like your Dad's audio system was worth about $20K. I would sell it all or nothing for 1/2 its purchase price.

A long time ago local audio dealers would take equipment in on trade-up. I don't know if some still do, but you could make a list of equipment, take photos and see if a local audio dealer may be interested in buying the equipment. Offer to let the dealer hear the system in your house to verify its hign-end status. Try to find an older guy who may remember the equipment, its reputation, sound and value. The dealer might buy it if he thinks he can sell it for profit or if he already knows a customer who may be in the position to buy a good deal.

i recomend you google every piece of equipment and try to see if any are for sale.. check ebay and audiogon frequently to see if anything is for sale there and try to see what it sold for. this is the only way in my mind to get a realistic estimate of true value. you will also learn about what it is so if someone offers you a great deal you will no and if someone offers you a bad deal you will know.

if this stuff is vintage equipment i would also recomend checking out audiokarma, its a similar forum that seems to focus on vintage.

if you cant get pics, of your exact equipment the exact brand name and model is important and everyone else can google for a picture, better yet you can paste pics you find from google and just make sure its the same as yours(for visual sake)

however anything that isnt clear as to the make and model a picture will help everyone here help you to identify.

Dads Stereo pics...... not yet.

Hello,

My daughter uploaded photos of dads stuff on webshots but this site wont let me post it until I have 5 posts. If I had family here that was interested in it I would pass it on. I actually did that with dads motorcycles and all kinds of cool stuff. Most of us in the family have passed on. Its very weird and thats actually part of my problem. I dont mean to whine about it. Its been a process over time. I have everyones stuff and you just cant keep everything. My two kids are musically challenged like me and we all agree we should sell it. They will split the money. I get more storage space out of it. Im into horses, motorcycles and stuff like that and always have been so theres no sence in kidding myself about my interests changing. I have boxes and boxes of family photos, and other types of very personal things from family members that I feel need to be saved and stored for future generations. My kids appreciate your advice and will hit up local stereo stores. I will post the URL as soon as the forum lets me.

Thanks for your help,

Janelle

One more thing.....

One more thing about selling the equipment. Someone suggested that we ask for half the origional price but I was thinking the kids could get a little something out of the deal. Maybe a grand to split and a music junkie could become a part of our exended family and get a killer deal that makes him smile for years to come. Im going to try that url next. Im very interested in what everyone has to say about the stuff.

Thanks for your help and patience!

research

It may take a bit of research to find realistic values for these items since we are dealing with vintage gear. Here's a start. I did find a couple of them.

PS Audio 200C
http://cgi.ebay.com.my/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110377475488

Nakamichi ST-7
http://cgi.ebay.com/Nakamichi-ST-7-AM-FM-Stereo-Tuner_W0QQitemZ160355305669QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintage_Electronics_R2?hash=item2555ebc8c5&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I don't think this is real accurate, but at least we can tell that they are out there and being sold. The best way to determine real value would be seeing what they are actually being sold for. Some listings can be misleading. Sorry I couldn't help more.
