Hi

This has probably been covered before ? but there isn't a search function as far as I can tell?

Anyway, just wondering what the best value/quality units are available?
It doesn't need to be portable, and prefer that it wasn't, as I would be connecting it up to my home theatre setup.

If there is a thread/s discussing the better DAB radios with what to look out for to get better quality and the best place to get them, a pointer would be appreciated.
I'm in Melbourne, S/W suburb.

Cheers:cool:

We don't have DAB in the US. We have the lousy iBiquity HD system. So you won't get much traction here.

DAB has its problems also. I have had a chance to evaluate it in the UK. On the BBC radio 3 streaming in the evening at 192 kbs, it is roughly comparable to FM radio, although a lot of listeners disagree. DAB has not been well received in the UK. The public outcry has now extended to life of analog FM for the foreseeable future. This has prompted the BBC to do a lot of research into codecs and digital streaming. Their internet stream at 192 kbs from their Coyopa servers performed well for the Proms. However it is well short of CD quality. The problems of analog FM and digital streaming are different. I think the FM faults are more easily forgiven.

The BBC promise further advances and improvements by the end of the year.

Personally I would stick with analog FM for now, with a good FM tuner and antenna. I have to admit good FM tuners are getting hard to come by, and so good vintage used ones such as the Quad FM 4 are your best bet.

Our iBuquity HD system is well below good analog FM.
