So I want to put a def. tech. 1000 center channel speaker above my VT30 on a little shelf. Here is my idea, I need all the input I can get

-use metal track rails, drill 2 holes in each rail, bolt them to the mounting holes with a washer

-they have to be even with the top of the tv

-clip on the shelf brackets on each rail

-place a light board across the 2 brackets and secure the board with 2 screws(1 on each side, at the tip of the bracket)

-lay down some light padding of some kind for the center channel (6lbs)

That's my general idea, I would paint everything black to make it look nice

Have you considered wall mounting your TV so you can use the mounting brackets on the speaker?

If not applicable, what is the distance measurement for the front of the TV to the wall? Thats a light weight speaker, but a shelf more than about 12" deep is going to need some reinforcing that could be difficult to hide.

I'd probably lean toward a more substantial shelf. They aren't that hard to find and they aren't that expensive and most should be able to handle a 6lb speaker.

Since you are already considering mounting to the wall, I also agree with just mounting the display instead.

Haha, my center channel weighs 57 lbs and would literally make that shelf weep :p .

Seriously, just go down the sheving isle at your local Home Dopot ... there are tons of affordable and sturdy options, great idea starters ...

... and yes, j_garcia's shelf would probably work well for a 6 lb speaker ;) .
