Custom 2.1 setup for PC

Dear all

Could you please help me in setting up a custom 2.1 setup for my PC.
I am just a listener of good music. I love to hear music...!
I planned to buy a 2.1 setup and went through some reviews of some packages what logitech, creative, klipsh, harman kardon and bose offers.

On everything, there are some shortcomings like,

logitech z-2300 ... good but missing the midtones.
creative inspire s2 ....good, missing the midtones & not powerfull as logitech
Harman kardon soundsticks II ... good, missing midtones, not rich in bass.
Bose companian 3 ...general reviews say value for money is less.
Klipsh pro media...! (which finally i decided to buy though i read some reviews saying does not have a longer life ) is out of market and it is not available in Italy.

So now I 've decided to setup a custom 2.1 speakers for my PC and my music sources. I would use this to listen to music and watch movies.

Could you experts, please help me setting up a 2.1 system.

My budget is around 250 to 300 euros.

My initialy thought was to get bose companion 2 and some amplified sub which would be a proper mix with the companion. Please advise.

This might stretch the budget a little at $348 shipped, but I think this might be something along the lines of what you are looking for. An alternative to the Audioengine speakers are the Behringer powered monitors which are ugly but sound very good. Also they will cost more. But I'm not sure the AH Store does international shipping.

Klipsch is back in the market with their Promedia 2.1 but I'm not sure they ship internationally. However the Promedia does have slightly muddy bass and their built-in amplifiers have never been reliable. That said I used Promedias for years with no problems.

What I eventually did was hook up an old receiver to my desktop PC. I run Behringer B2030P studio monitors and a small subwoofer to the receiver (see signature below).

Another option is powered studio monitors driven directly off of your sound card. Behringer makes the B2020A with built in amplifiers. Some claim that the built-in amplifiers are unreliable but I have no first hand knowledge. These will still need the help of a subwoofer.

I enquired with the Klipsh Distributor here in Italy and they said the klipsh promedia is stopped and they dont have it here in Italy.

Could you please suggest me if i can combine and woofer with the bose companion 2.

I run the AudioEngine A5's and a Velodyne VMS8 sub in my office. It is over your budget but a remarkable sounding system. It will hold a candle to my real set up when listening nearfield.

You could also get this sub from Tomorow in order to save a lot of money on the lows.

Personally I am running Aperion 4B speakers with a Sherwood RX4105 and a Polk PSW250. But this would be well over your budget....will there be funding available down the road? If so you could just get a set of bookshelves and an amp or powered monitors and pick up a sub down the road.
