How do you fix a leaky room or Treat This?!
What a long strange trip it’s been. Some of us have to make do with the available space and try to create a HT environment. It is much easier if you start with good bones i.e. correct room dimensions and have the freedom to treat the space to optimize the audio and video quality. Unfortunately, I have neither of these. What I have is some rather nice equipment thrown into a family living space that is hostile to optimizing its performance.
It took my hearing a really well thought out and engineered HT room for me to realize the limitations that my space imposes. The differences are subtle to some and more pronounced to others, but the sonic benefits of a properly treated space are significant and undeniable.
For me the only way I will get to where I want to go with this "hobby" is to build a dedicated space. That is an expensive proposition but if done correctly, will be justifiable both esthetically and financially. I am not talking about some of the true theatre replicas that some folks create and I have nothing against those per say but my ideal would be a large, comfortable, acoustically treated, light controllable space setup for all of my uses (HT and music being primary). In the meantime, my learning process continues.
