Cure for turn-on thump?

Hey dudes,

I recently got a Behringer DSP1124 to use for EQ'ing my subs. The problem is that when it turns on my Rythmik sub when it's on "standby" gets hit with a pretty loud turn-on thump.

So far the only cure I have is to leave the subs amp in the "off" position and then manually turn it on after the BFD turns on. But this is kind of a pain. Is there anything I can do?

Oh well, that's what I figured. I see a lot of people just leave their BFD on 24/7 but I don't like that idea.

You could get some form of sequenced switched outlets? I presume this is far more than you want to spend on this solution though.

I had a BFD previously. I currently have this issue when my sub turns off, not on.

A 12v triggered outlet/plug strip might work.

I always experiment with the order of plugs and order of turn on until I can reduce it. I personally manually turn on my sub amp. Sometimes I don't want it on anyway. Of course my amp is right behind me so that makes it easier.

A 12v triggered outlet/plug strip might work.

My Belkin power center has a switched output so it kicks the BFD on when my UMC-1 turns on, but since the sub is always on stand by it's always ready to go when the BFD is. I would have to plug the sub into the Belkin as well. That's an option but then I'd have to run a power cord to the A/V cabinet, which would mean no more hidden cabling unless I knocked a couple of holes in the wall and ran some Romex behind it.

There is a cure. If he adds LM timer circuits to activate a MOSFET switch or relay, to disconnect the output until the turn on thump has passed this will cure it.

It is unacceptable for a unit to have a turn on thump and is evidence of a poorly designed and manufactured product.

Behringer units are at a price point where the rule is it too good to be true, it isn't applies.

They are still quite solid amps. By no means are they reference level, but with a little work around they do the job. Obviously the Peavey IPR or Yamaha P Series are better.

I agree that it is a flaw with the unit itself, but that won't fix the issue at hand. Some sort of delay turn on for the sub will. The BFD isn't designed for subs, it is designed for main speakers. It can be used with a sub because it is flexible enough to be configured to work how you want it to. It has been a while since I had mine, but I seem to recall having the same issue.

We aren't talking about an amp, this is a BFD.

I sold my old sub The new sub is clean enough that I didn't really feel I needed it anymore, plus it got in the way in my rack.
