These sound great, I've been using them for 4 years, the wife loves them, the biding posts are better than the Orb's.
I have definitely heard good things about Anthony Gallo speakers, but I cannot find the prices of them anywhere! Any idea what it would cost for a 5.1 setup?

I did listen to the Mirage Nanosate and Dif. Tech. last night and the Mirage were definitely the better of the two. I like the look of the KEF KHT 3005, but again I go back not being able to hear them before I purchase. At this point I'll most likely go with Mirage, but I do intend on doing the 30 day trial of Orb Audio and thinking about the 30 day trial of Aperion (although they are really not the style I am looking for).

My 5.1 system came it at about $1200.00 with brackets and tax.

That sounds like my kind of price range! I am looking at one of the Orb Audio setups and they would be in my price range except for the stands, which cost $300 Each!!

Another small spherical system that is more money is made by Antony Gallo. They are supposed to be first rate and they have a designer appearance that would please the wife. (If you are into decorating you can drop a lot more money on general furnishings easily. Why not spend a little more on a speaker system?) I believe they are also sold retail so you could look up the closest dealer and go hear them.

The Anthony Gallos will not only look much better, but they should sound phenomenally better than any Bose Acoustisuck system.

I found some ballpark prices on Anthony Gallo products in “Secrets of Home Theater and High Fidelity” January, 2007 in an article reviewing their system.

Reference 3.1 Floor-Standing (1” tweeter, two 4” midrange, 10” woofer) - $2,995/Pair USA
Reference S.S. Sub Amplifier (240W RMS x 2) - $900 USA
Reference AV Center ( 1” tweeter, four 4” woofers)- $1,200/Each USA Center Stand $200 USA
A’Diva (5” driver) - $240/Each USA

Total System MSRP - $5,775 USA

I am not sure that the Total System Price is accurate since the subwoofer was missing.
I could not find the subwoofer price

I think you could make a 5.1 system with four A’Divas ($960), center chanel ($1200) and an internet direct subwoofer ($900) or total - $3060

RE: Gallos

Come to think of it you could probably get 5 A'Divas for $1200 and a subwoofer of choice in a variety of performance levels and prices.

Gallo

I was able to find a dealer in town that sells the Gallo speakers. He only had 2 of the Micros and a TR-1 sub, but it sounded pretty good! I think I am probably going to go with the Gallo Micro Ti system. The guy in town said that it was about $1500 for a 5.1 package, however I did find online the Micro Ti setup for less than a grand. anyone ever heard of this site?

I would definitely like to support local business but for $500 more it would be hard to justify.

so, one last question before I take the plunge...

I currently have Sony tower speakers that are about 8 or 9 years old. I have seen that most other opinions rate the Orbs as better than Gallo. Do you guys thing that the Orbs will out-perform the Sony towers that I have now? After listening to other speakers around the stores in town I do think that mine sound a little flat. Thanks!!

Also, it will all be powered by a Sony 6.1 receiver (STR-DE598)

Ok, I couldn't wait any longer! I order my Orbs and hope to get them before the week is over (probably not, though :() I got the "People's Choice" Package. Comes with Mod2 (dual orbs) for the fronts and center, and Mod1 (single orb) for the rears. Hopefully they live up to my expectations!!

What do you think of the Orbs?

I ordered the Orb Mod2 system about the same time you wrote this post. I kept mine because they sound surprisingly good to my ear and the Super 8 sub also sounds very good. I also like the small profile that is visually inconspicuous which is important for my home theater setup. I must admit, I was a bit dubious when I pulled the first Orb from the box and it weighed about a pound ... I didn't know what to expect, but, something more substantial seemed in order. You cannot judge a book by it's cover and a similar euphemism must apply to prejudicial impressions about speaker weight.

I've listened to the small/mini/micros from Definitives, Mirages, Klipsch, and Bose. They all seemed to have some nuance that I didn't like. Of those, the Orbs are the most full-range, unbiased, and musical to my ear. My only issue with the Orbs is that the low end of the midrange sound spectrum seems weak, but not to the extent that I noticed that or some other weakness from the aforementioned brands. I suppose it could be my hearing ... My wife agrees with me about the lower mid-frequence range softness, but, she loves the Orb sound and she'll turn the volume up during the MusicHD concerts ... she'd never done that before with my venerable old ESS floor standing speakers from the early '80s. The Orbs have made me (almost) forget my beloved ESS speakers.

Another thing, prior to buying them I wrote a technical question to Orb about the Orb speaker impedence, amplifier characteristics, and frequency response. The Pres. of Orb, Ethan Siegal, wrote back a clear, complete response. That speaks to me!

I think only a house fire will make me part with my ESSs.

Love my Orbs!

Ok, so I've had the orbs for about a month now (maybe a little longer). The second I pulled them out of the box and hooked them up in place of my Sony floor standing speakers I immediately noticed a difference. The sound is so much clearer than anything I have heard. Mind you I am not audio or speaker expert but Dang do these sound better than the Mirage satellites that I listened to at Best Buy! They look very slick too! My wife even points out the clarity of the sound with these! I've noticed that we constantly have something on the TV or stereo just to have sound coming out of these speakers because they sound so great! I definitely recommend these to anyone looking to get satellites! I may never go back to floor standing speakers again! I was a little wary about the 8 inch sub that they send but it has grown on me and sounds wonderful! Note that my living room is very open with vaulted ceilings and they still sound great. I don't think I can turn them up loud enough to create any distortion and still be able to stand in the house due to the noise volume!

I had a few questions regarding the material and warranty so I contacted them and ended up speaking directly with Ethan, the president of Orb Audio. His responses were very timely, professional, and curious. I cannot wait until I can upgrade to the Mod 4 setup!!

2 Thumbs up! (I'd give them more, but I only have 2 thumbs:D)

I'd love to hear what anyone else has to say about Orb Audio!
