Hey guys, Im pretty new to the whole ht scene, but I have been reading up on this site and a few others for the past couple of weeks and think I may be ready to start.

All I have right now is a 37" LCD Vizio TV and Xbox 360. The room Im going to be putting this in is a 15 x 12 with a side opening. Im still in college so Im not looking to spend large amounts of money, but I do want a decent 5.1 system. Here's what I thought so far.

Pioneer VSX-517-K Receiver
Onix x-ls center and bookshelf

Basically thats all I can half-way decide on. I am wondering if I can get by with buying the HD-DVD player for the 360. I would appreciate any recomendation you guys have. Thanks

The pioneer would work just fine but I would recommend looking into some b-stock Yamaha receivers for the same price. Also, you have picked out some nice speakers x-cs is the center of the same line if thats what you were thinking of. Also, to get the complete 5.1, right now you are at 3.0, you would still need surrounds and a sub. Getting another pair of the x-ls speakers and an x-sub would do you just fine (you can always get things in pieces if you don't have the money now).

There should be no problems using the 360 addon as your source.

Thanks man. Yeah, I was just wondering what I should use for the surrounds and sub. I know car subs, but am new to the home ones. And I'll definatly look into the Yamaha reciever. I've always been please with their products, even though all my other experiance is from their atv's, dirtbikes, and sport bikes (the reason I was kind of leary of checking out their electronics. Still not planning on buying for a while either, gotta move and everything first.

Check out the Gift Certificate promotion that lasts a few more days from AV123. You can use it to buy your X-series speakers and will get a discount on one of their future subs for $299. They should also be posting some b-stock X-series info this week with some good deals while they last.

The X-box add on is probably the cheapest way to get an HD source, but the Toshiba HD-A2 player is only about $250. I plan to enjoy my Oppo upscalling DVD player until the format war pans out.
