Correct video scaling setting

I have a HDTV 42" 16:9 Plasma and enjoying it. I have a question when watching DVD's. DVD player is hooked up using Component cables

I still see the black bars on the DVD's that I am watching, all newer movies. I am curious if I am using the corret settings.

On the TV, I have the options of Normal, Widescreen, Pan and Scan, and 4:3.
I have the TV set to widescreen and the DVD player set to widescreen as well.

Is this setting correct? Or am I using a wrong setting, or are just the majority of DVD's still coming with the black bars on the top and bottom?

I am a complete noob on A/V equipment, so any help is greatly appreciated.

I just put Batman Begins in, and i get the black bars at the top and bottom. Is this what the movie should look like in 480p on a 16:9 widescreen TV?

I may have everything set up correctly and it could just be the movie. Just wanna make sure.

The short answer is Yes, that DVD is origonally done in 2.40 aspect ratio. And it has been formated to "widescreen" So yes the black bars on top are right.
