I tried ripping my Tool - 10000 Days CD and it sounds like crap.

I know it won't play in my truck stereo. I also didn't see any copy protection logos, etc in the case.

It's a Sony BMG. Are these bozos implementing copy protection without disclosure?

They don't need to disclose it.

Look at the CD and the case.

Is there a "Compact Disc Digital Audio" logo?

That means it's technically not an audio CD.

It's a CD that contains data that happens to produce music in standard CD players. The data is deliberately scrambled in such a way as to confuse CD-ROM drives so that a computer can't play/rip the audio off it.

It doesn't have the CD Digital Audio logo because it doesn't conform to the standards required to use the logo.

As far as I've read, no copies of 10,000 Days are copy protected. However, there was (or is) seemingly a number of poorly pressed copies that were shipped that won't always play back properly. (My release-day copy ripped fine, for what's it's worth.)
