Cooling The Beast - The AC Infinity AIRCOM T9

I have noticed that my Marantz SR7009 runs warm and with intense music or a movie at movie theater levels it gets HOT.

I run a generic fan on top which is noisy but does a great job of keeping things cool but it's ugly and when you turn the volume down it's a bit loud. So, enter the AIRCOM T9! The fact they show it with a Marantz product is telling. It arrived today and I'm looking forward to installing it tonight and putting it to the test! :)

That's a very nice looking unit, but a bit costly for me.
Agreed, it took me a few days to consider if it was worth it, for now it completes the system so I'm calling it done hardware wise. Still looking for time to run REW and tweak.

Curious, what sort of enclosure you have the avr in, i.e. how much space you have around the unit. Interested to know what the original fan was and how much quieter the new one is....can you measure spl with a meter at a few different distances for the old vs new fans?

The AVR is out in the open but gets real hot, I am using all supported channels now as well. I noticed when running in 5.2 it didn't get too hot, now that it's running 9 channels, much more demand.

A few weeks back I decided to see what kind of SPL the system was capable of, my SR5003 was a little thing compared to this beast and with dual subs in room SPL hit 128db peaks (I know small room) and it was hitting 128db peaks again when it suddenly shut down. I thought I blew it up, I touched the top and I swear you could have cooked eggs on it so I put two cheap fans on top to run when using it for higher volume content.

This device may force me to lift the TV up a bit, but I wanted to raise it 4 inches or so anyway so that's fine. I just want the AVR to run cooler. I'll check the DB level as well before and after.

Thanks, surprised it's that warm out in the open like that, look forward to the spl measurements.

I think HD was wondering how much quieter the actual fan is compared to your old one.

When the wife watches TV, it's not that bad, when we crank it up to -8 for movies it gets mighty toasty.

Agreed, I mentioned I was going to take a reading before and after, sometimes I need to run on and on and on. You know, too much coffee!!! Dammit! Where did I put that cup.... :D

So the main difference between this one vs the slightly cheaper one (S9 is $62) is the LCD?

Yes, true dat. The entire enclosure looks nice, yes its over-priced yes I could continue to use the fans (wife hates them) or buy the cheaper model, yes I could have used any of the many extra computer fans I have laying around.

Did I mention it's nice looking, has an LCD and the wife won't complain about the fans sitting on top of the receiver? :)

I think you bought the right one.

Agreed.

I just installed it, the adjustable fans measure less than 50db at the listening position set at 40% and when I turn them off, less than 50db at the listening position. I don't think I'll ever have to crank it up. We're watching a movie so I'll take measurements before and after when the wife goes to bed.

One flaw, it should have a trigger port to turn on at this price point, the wife will never remember to turn it on while for me it will become habit, I'll figure something out. I love how it looks and fits on the Marantz AVR though and it really pulls air from the receiver.

Interesting I commented about running the S8 on a Denon unit for another forum poster. I decided to go S8 after feeling my SR7009 after a good season at -10. The speakers I run are a bit more challenging in 7.2.2. The LCR are 4ohm. The S8 mostly runs at a single speed and keeps the Marantz nice an cool in an open rack.

I had it running at the lowest setting last night, literally couldn't hear it and the wife didn't even notice it on top of the receiver so I'm happy with it for that fact alone. I touched the sides of the AVR after watching Passengers and it was very cool to the touch, awesomesauce. :)

I saw the high amount of 5 star reviews and only based the decision on verified purchases, the funny thing is most are right. I can say this without a doubt, it came boxed like a high quality product should. The packaging was clean, well protected, the box was thick and strong and when I removed the unit from the packaging it didn't feel cheap, in any way.

In fact it looks and functions like a high quality piece and has a bit of weight to it. I do wish it had a trigger port since my AVR lacks an AC outlet.

Thanks for posting that link, I'll keep it in mind when buying.

Even if the site is correct and someone did used automated reviews to add some positive reviews, doesn't mean that the product is bad. But I usually try to check it on this site before I buy especially on more expensive items.
