There's something we haven't been called before!

I use Bar Keepers Friend on must of my stainless. Doesn't scratch. Also works great on the sink.

Majorloser and Loserwife....what else could you be called?

And yep, Bar Keepers Friend is another great product for those applications, though it doesn't have the non-stick properties of WENOL. (I love saying that word. ;) )

If it's leaving some kind of residue behind are you sure its safe for food prep?

Here's the MSDS: http://www.2spi.com/catalog/msds/msds01026.html

Seems safe but I don't think I would want to eat it.

If any residue is left after washing, I'd guess it would be microscopic. That doesn't mean it couldn't be dangerous, but it's not exactly like "eating" it. The principle ingredient that may cause concern would be the aluminum oxide, which is basically the polishing element. WENOL polishes the metal to an extent that it minimizes reaction to burned-on food. It doesn't provide a chemical shield. Nevertheless, eat enough aluminum oxide, and it has been connected with Alzheimer's Disease (though not proven). But as you say, this one appears safe.

As Majorloser has pointed out, you read these MSDS reports and you'll give up everything in your life. We live in a chemical world.

Your gonna die anyway!

I don't need to consume "safe amounts" of White Spirits, Kerosene (Petroleum), Coco fatty acid diethanol amide, Aluminum oxide, Ammonia Solution(25%). All of witch are in WENOL.

In my origional post I said it's probably safe. Probably great to use for an ocaisonal deep clean as long as its washed thoroughly with soap and water before cooking.

Just because something has an MSDS does not mean it's unsafe. Someone probably has a MSDS on milk or table salt or Crisco. Some parts of ISO/QS certification get a little silly.

I hear if you use mobil one to deep fry your hush puppys they come out light as air. Wash 'em down with a little 93 octane.....delightful!

(RJ I think we posted at about the same time I was responding to ML)

But you probably consume some of the following everyday:

hydrofluorosilicic acid, aluminum sulphate, ferric sulphate, ferric chloride, sulphuric acid, sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid, sodium hypochlorite, anhydrous ammonia, ammonium hydroxide, Calcium hypochlorite, calcium carbonate, calcium oxide, chlorine, chloramines, orthophosphates and long chain polymers.............(just to name a few)

Have you read the "consumer confidence report" your water utility is required to send to every customer every year? Those are all common chemicals used to treat drinking water.

So you say you only drink bottled water..............they aren't required to test for nor are they regulated for most limits your water supplier must meet. Heck, a lot of bottled water won't even pass a bacterial test.

That's true. I've read that tap water is actually cleaner than bottled water. Unless it's distilled water, you never know what the source of those bottled water is.

About the only time bottled water is useful is when there is contamination of your city's water reservior. Otherwise drinking bottled water is like paying $15 for a gallon of gas.

Let's get back to cooking!

I wholeheartedly agree we have wiped our collective butt with the planet. Can we agree we get enough pollution day to day without brushing our teeth with metal polish and chewing on mercury thermometers?

Here is something to try with your fancy pans and its pretty easy and good. If you like a little spice. It also makes the house smell great.

Arabiatta(SP) sauce ("angry" sauce)

6 cups marinara (2 normal jars if you dont have homemade)
1/2 pound spicy pancetta(SP) a kind of italian bacon (coarsly chopped)
fresh garlic (5) cloves or as much/little you like (minced)
2 tsp red pepper flakes or as hot/not hot as you like
light olive oil

Take a pan that will comfortably hold 6-7 cups. I use my 12" frying pan with straight sides. Put a good amount of oil in a hot pan and brown the pancetta till it's crispy. Throw in the garlic and pepper saute for about 1 min. Add the sauce and simmer (light bubbling) uncovered to thicken and bring the flavor together about 20-30 min stir ocassionally.

It's good on many things. Put it over some grilled chicken on pasta. It's great on stuffed shells or cheese ravoli or just plain pasta.

What do other 'holics like to cook?

Holy Smokes!! This is a whole new thread...one that could set the record for postings! :) We really should do an Audioholics Cook Book! ;) I'm going to copy your post over to a new Steam Vent thread. See ya there.

Costco sells a vacuum sealer. Not sure how much it is. But Costco has a liberal return policy. Anytime you don't like the product, just take it back for a full refund (don't abuse it though).
