Convert audio cassette music

i was wondering if someone could suggest the best way to capture the music from audio cassettes to my hard drive. i have tons of old tapes and i would like to be able to save them as .mp3 or some other audio format and play from my computer and iPod.

please recommed software/hardware i would need to accomplish this.

You can buy one of the ION devices or something similar or you can do it yourself and have much more control.

All you need is a tape deck and audio editing software like Sound Forge.

thanks, almost all the devices are too expensive.

maybe i'll start with tape deck and soundforge solution and see the quality before i spend too much on the other devices.

Hey, I thought those things were pretty cool being USB and all. Very simple. Of course you can do it the other way, but remember to use the line input of your sound card, other wise you'll have to fiddle around with the input volume so you don't over drive the input. If you use a standard cassette player it may not have a line out and you'll need to use the headphone out and fiddle with the volume there too.
