Hello,

Love the site have followed it for over a year now but finally decided to register so i could post a question.

First off Ill give you all the componets of my system. My TV is a 58 inch plasma (Samsung PN58A760), everything else is yamaha and my main reciever is a (rx-v665), connected to it I have a yamaha 10 inch 250 watt sub (yst-sw315), for the rear i have 2 ceiling mounted 2 way 8 inch speakers (ns-iw560c), for the front i have 2 3-way 6.5 inch speakers (ns-iw660) and for the center I have a (ns-iw960). I also have another receiver which is a yamaha (rx-497) and connected to it I have another pair of ceiling mounted (ns-iw560c) in the master bath and on my deck I have a pair of (ns-aw592) I also have acoustic research digital volume controls in both the master bath and on the deck.

Ok now that we got that out of the way. I had this house built and did all the wiring myself at frame stage which made things very nice and im loving the whole system so far sounds great and looks very nice. I have 3 questions, my main problem is if I run my deck and master bath at same time every now and then that reciever will shut off. That receiver is actually a 2 channel reciaver 75x2 but has a switch on back to set it to handle down to 4 ohms and can run 4 speakers off it, what I think is happing is for some weird reason my outdoor speakers are 6 ohms so when I have all 4 speakers running im at like 3.5 ohms not 4 and if i turn it up very loud recieve shuts off, is there anyway to change the ohms on the outdoors speakers up to 8 ohms, a friend told me I could do it with some resistors but im thinking that would hurt the sound quality and prob get very hot, and way I can add a speaker or 2 in series or parallel to get the 8 ohms i think i need? please give me you ideas.

Thats the big problem but I also want to connect both receivers so if im watching a game or something on main receiver I could hear it outside if i want, my orginal plan was to just connect the rca audio outs the the audio in of second receiver but got to reading and it says if using HDMI 9which I am) no sound is output from the rca audio out, could i use a digital out with an optical cable or what would be the best way to accomplish that?

And last question is about my sub. it has 2 rca type inputs and my receiver is 7.2 so it has a left and right sub out, should I use all for connections or just the mono coneection, will this affect power or sound and should i use a digital cable or just a normal one to connect it.

Thanks so much for your help and sorry so long but wanted to give you all the details. Thanks in advance for any help and feel free to ask any questions you may have. have a great day and ROCK ON!

No particular sound or heat problems, but it’s really not a good idea. It would require a power resistors (52-watt or so) of the correct ohms. All the resistor would end up doing is dissipating amplifier power as heat, so as you can imagine it’s not a terribly efficient way to solve your problem. It would be better to get the appropriate speakers, or an amplifier that can handle the load.

Of what component?

No way to tell, you’ll just have to try it for yourself and see what works. You may have to switch to component video connections to get what you’re after, if using HDMI shuts all other outputs down.

It’s fine to just use the mono sub out, especially if you have only one sub.
