Connecting to IR inputs of AV receivers.

Hello all,
I am looking at a way to control my AV gear from a computer.
AV receivers often have IR inputs and outputs on the back. I understand I can use these to connect different appliances together, so that IR signals are passed on.
Does there exist some computer tethered IR sender/receiver that can be directly connected to such an IR input, so I don't have to stick an IR blaster to the front of my receiver?

Hello Krist,

What reciever do you have? The quick answer is yes there are computer based IR systems that will send the signals through a cable (usually 3.5mm mini plug) to the back of your reciever if it has an IR in. An Example

There are a few issues with certain recievers. In some cases the IR in will not control the main zone only the subzones. Many recievers have plugs in the back that only function with their own gear an are not IR but say something like control. Like RI on the back of Onkyo's.

The models that have both IR in and out will act as a distribution to send IR out for other devices but you may only have one so you could get a dual flasher so you could control 2 sources.
