connecting stereo to pc computer

i have an Aiwa home theatre stereo which supposed to have 5.1 speaker config.. but when i connected the satelites, they didn't really work (maybe i did it wrong).. and i've been using the 2 main speakers only since...

i recently got a Logitec 5.1 speakers for my desktop and i don't know what cable to use to output the stereo system into my computer

and also, would i have to disconnect my stereo's original speakers? and is this where the sound card's Line In slot comes into play?
