Connecting PC and AV Reciever HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

Hey there everyone, I have a slight problem. I attempted to use a converter (a simple connector that splits a headphone jack connection into an RCA connection) in order to connect my sound card (on my PC) to my AV Receiver (Onkyo TX-SR805). However, when I attempted that, I noticed a pretty large buzzing noise along with the music I played from my computer. As a result, I decided un-hook all video connections (I had comcast connected to my reciever via a component video cabled and up-converted via an HDMI cable to my TV) and the buzzing noise was GONE!!!!!!

I think there is some interference from the video devices I am using that is causing this buzzing, but I have no clue. Any suggestions??????

headphone out and line out operate at different mv/v. Generaly if you only have 1 output on your laptop/comp you have to tell the sound card what to output. if you cant and you have to use the headpone out, id say there could be a ground issue. I wouldnt split that signal when using 1/2 for a line level signal.

Sounds very much like the groundloop problem I had with my setup.

First are the plugged into the same outlet? If you can try and do this and see if it goes away.

I purchased an isolator off ebay for under 15 bucks. It worked great and the hum is gone. Impact Acoustics offers a much higher quality one for about 60.

This is a common issue for what I have read after the issue I had with mine. I have about 30ft between my computer and the gear.

Radioshack also sells a ground loop isolator for about 20 bucks. I use it between my computer and stereo and it works great. I did not notice any significant loss of signal quality either however I wouldnt use it on any of my higher quality sources.

In response to what Bandphan said about splitting your signal, Your not actually splitting it your just changing the connection type so no worries there.

It's a ground loop for certain. An isolator transformer on you cable connection to your rig will cure it.
